  • Nook Color?

I'm really thinking about buying one of these. I like the fact that it's backlit because I like to read in the dark. I don't really like the fact that there's no 3G but that's not necessarily a deal breaker.

Anyways, do any of you have one of these? Do you like it?

a friend of mine has one and hates it, due to the nook store prices being almost as high as buying a regular book, as opposed to the kindle where I've downloaded 16 books for under $40(a lot of them are $0.99-especially ones put up by the authors without a publishing company) . they make lights for the kindle-I just use a standard booklight attached to the case I bought for it.
Honestly.... the image of that in my head made me go "AWESOME!"..... and then I remembered I am terribly strange.-Red dazes

I have a 3G kindle myself. I bought a lighted cover for it and I just use that if I need a little extra reading light.

If having a multi-color screen is that important to you, get the nook, but I love my kindle.

Kabe and I are looking into getting one. We like the fact that we could use it for textbooks or RPG books and not lose anything from it.

I love my Nook color. The Nook prices are higher than Kindle (sometimes), but since I'd just buy a "real" book anyway it wasn't a huge setback.

I like the touchscreen as opposed to the Kindle keyboard, so it's really all personal preference. Play with both of them for awhile.

Edit: Oh, I should mention I choose the Nook over the iPad (Sorry, Steve). I also use it to watch movies and listen to music at the gym.

I just bought a nookcolor (just got it, haven't had time to play with it much).

            My reasoning was like this:
            - Hit Amazon and B&N; which has more ebooks by my three favorite authors?
            - Hit seven or so other sites that sell ebooks; which format(s) do they support?

For my favorite authors, there were more ebooks from B&N and the B&N prices were comparable or *less than* the Amazon prices. For other sites, the Nook format (epub) was more often supported.

            Voila! NookColor.

            As with everything else, YMMV.

My mother bought me a regular nook when I moved here in August. This was before the nook color came out. Mom and my step-father bought theirs in Feb. We all highly reccomend them. I love mine. It is easy and lightweight. I can just set it down and read when my toddler allows. I can have as many books as I want on it. IT keeps your page and My toddler cannot rip the pages out.

I also have a cover that feels like a book. And a book light. The booklight is amazing. I do wish mine could be backlight.

I really love that it looks like regular type in a book.

I haven't purchased one yet, but I'm planning on it at some point, for several reasons. I do want the color, since a lot of what I'd be using it for is for PDFs that have color diagrams. I love that it fits in my jacket pocket (unlike an iPad). Also, it's amazingly easy to convert it to an Android tablet.

Also, if you're worried about Kindle books being cheaper, there was talk that B&N was going to allow the Kindle app to be run on the Nook Color. Not sure when, though.

I have the original nook and love it. A downside to the color that I see is that the batteries don't last as long. I can go a week or more without charging it, i think the color is 8 to 10 hours (not sure)

I have a book light that I use if I read in the dark. Hubby and I read when we are on the treadmill, since you can increase the size.

Also there are a ton of free books

I also love that my Hubby and I can share my account so we share books.

I have a regular nook with a booklight. Many of the books I like are a bit pricier than on the Kindle but it was a gift so the slight difference doesn't bother me too much. I love that you can go forever without charging it, and it's easier on my eyes than reading a screen.

Nooks are cool if your library has ebooks, because Kindle doesn't support library ebooks but the Nook does.

I have an original Nook and love it. I will more than likely upgrade to a Nook Color in a year or two. Personally I don't buy an ebook that costs over $10, it's just a personal preference. And often new releases will start out priced high, but will be lowered if you're patient.

If you "like" Nook's page on Facebook, they offer a free book every Friday. They also feature cheap books once every week or two. I've gotten a lot of books for .99 cents or 1.99 or 2.99 that way. You might also be able to borrow books from your library.

With the Nook, you're also not tied to just buying from Barnes and Noble, you can buy from Inkmesh, Borders, Kobobooks, and you might be able to borrow books from your local library.

Barnes and Noble will also occasionally have little coupons at the bottom of your Nook that you can use either in the store or at the cafe which is a pretty good incentive to go and visit the store.

My wife and I bought one each with our tax refund, and we love it, we have like 50 books that we bought and about 12 that we got free. I actually use mine more to surf the web than I use my netbook, and I can go all day long with music playing, reading books, surfing the net, and letting my 3 year old daughter read her books we bought(they read aloud to her, highlighting the words as it reads) I love the heck out of it, looked at the kindle, ipad and nook color before buying, and I am happy with my choice. And amazingly, i don't have issues using the touch screen keyboard. (background for why it is amazing, i have giant sausage fingers. My ring size on my pinkie is a 12 and ring finger, thumb and first finger are 15 middle is a 17good luck finding THAT sized ring non special ordered)

Added after i read another comment:
And if you know anyone else with one, some books are Lendable. or some librarys are set up to lend the ebooks to your reader as well, we live in houston and found that ours is set up that way.

Anyone in the houston area, i have a few lendable books in my nook, send me a pm if you want to exchange some.
