  • So I had a job interview today...

I've read about interviews like these, but this is the first I've ever had with these questions:

"If you were a mixed drink, which one would you be?"

"Who would you choose to play you in a movie about your life?"

And on and on. Lots of questions about motivation. What would motivate me to work there? What would motivate me to stay there?

It's a sales job, and there is a basic salary that would cover my rent. Exactly. The rest would be up to me.

Man, I just don't know what to do. I keep receiving clear signs that it's time to go, and then there's the money situation that keeps me here.

If "the rest" is straight commission, that's pretty good. Just make sure that there aren't complicated criteria before you start earning more. There have been many places I have been where new people had a very hard time earning more than their base pay.

So, what mixed drink did you feel like ?

Yeah, the guy did bring home the fact that there will be months when no commission will be paid at all. He seemed to be trying very hard to dissuade me from working there.

Mikkel, I said fruit juice. Evidently, this question is used to find out if an applicant drinks alcohol or not.

Good thing I'm warned now , I'm looking for work too and could easily run into that question.
There's not to long notice if you find a better job, I hope.
It's better than nothing, but there must be better paying jobs even in these times.

When do you find out if you got it?

I can call the guy tomorrow and tell him if I'm interested in taking it to the next interview level.

Well then, that is a silly question to ask if that is what they want to know - they specify a mixed drink and expect you not to answer with the name of a cocktail? In my mind mixed drink = cocktail.

I'm job hunting too and I get annoyed with these what I call "Have you stopped kicking your dog?" questions.

Are you going to take the next interview?

I'm going to have to, unless another prospect comes along very quickly. I need income, and I need it now. If all the raffle tickets sell within the next few days, I won't need to - I'm still working on getting the word out.

So, today I talked to the interviewer on the phone. I'm going in for the next round of interviewing.

"In hindsight, what would you have done differently about the interview, and why?"
