  • One bad apple...

Another weekend getting food, and this time my first stop is at Save-A-Lot. I'm looking over the produce display (note, this is a place to get stuff like apples and bananas because they're cheap, but by no means a place to get stuff like tomatoes because they tend to be very bruised), and discover that the Roma tomatoes are pretty much bruised.

There's a guy working the apple display and he watched me pick over the tomatoes, trying to find one that wasn't squished, had a huge thumb print in it or didn't look like it'd been pretty much thrown back into the display. After a few minutes, I gave up and wandered to the banana part of the display (no crazy women this time! yay!), and grabbed a bunch.

Apple Guy: So I guess the tomatoes weren't up to your standards?
Me: Just a little too bruised. I'll look elsewhere.
AG: You ain't gonna find 'em any better elsewhere
Me: *knows I will since I can go to hubby's store or to another local grocery store* I'm pretty sure I can.
AG: You must be one of them vegetable snobs.
Me: *ignores that jab and grabs a bag of the fuji apples, then puts it back as apple juice goes over my hand* ugh.. I think one of the apples is..yeah, it split. * shows him where the apple is bad*
AG: *gives me a nasty look* Yeah, always one bad apple..*and snatches the bag from my hand*

I manage to find a bag that didn't have any damaged apples and got that.

After I got a couple of other things, I checked out and caught a supervisor and mentioned what had happened. She rolled her eyes and apologized, saying that the guy normally works the meat, but the produce person had called out sick, and he wanted to do produce.
    Random conversation:
Me: Okay..so I think I get why Zoro wears a bandana
    DDD: Cuz it's cool

So, by using the Doctor's reasoning, bow ties, fezzes and bandanas are cool.

Hmmm. The Save-a-Lot here has tomatoes that aren't bruised. They don't have any flavor, but that's the usual case with commercial tomatoes...
When you start at zero, everything's progress.

that is so true but I get vine ripened tomatoes rather than hot house tomatoes and they are lots better.
