No,not a comment to an SC,but what the drummer hosting the jam session I went to last Sunday said to me after I'd played the 1st tune.
warning,drum geek stuff ahead
I told him I'd been playing for 40 years,he had pro stuff, nothin's gonna break! This was after I'd introduced myself & talked about his Ludwig drums: "Nice set,mid-70s to early 80s,but the bass drum hoops ain't original"
"Yes they are!"
"No,white cortex sets were sold with black hoops that had a silver sparkle inlay 'til the late 80s,then they had a wood finish"
"Well this is Modular hardware"
"Sorry guy,no,this is Classic,Modular was introduced in '82 but they had a buncha Classic left over so the sold those cheaper." end of drum stuff
So then I play, the aforementioned exchange takes place & he's somewhat reassured after our brief chat. The set just smoked right along.
Afterwards I go to thank the drummer & we get to talkin',he asks me how long I been playin? "On the northside of 40 years"
"I've been playing almost that long" he says...
I looked him in the eye & said:
"You've had that drumset for 2 years tops,it's the 1st one you've had in 25 years, you sold the one you had in high school & college 'cause you got a job,got married & had kids, now they're grown & you have some time & money so you decided to buy a set & get back into playin' "
The look on his face as he said "How'd you know???" was priceless.
Told him I knew lots of guys like him, been playin' with 'em for years.
Before I left he asked me if I'd be available to cover for him if he had to work his day job, said I'd be happy to
