  • It's called privacy...

There is nothing like being doubled over in pain in a crowded ER to have one of your clients come over and talk to you about their problems as if you're on the clock or even give a crap about their problems atm.

Not only did she bother me in the waiting room, she kept peering in the room I was in as well. I got a hold of the nursing supervisor and said to keep that woman put up and the hell away from me. She was pretty compassionate after she understood why.

How I managed to not use any profanity or told her to gtfo was just a testimate to my professionalism. However, lesson learned: If you work in social services it may be worth a trip to a hospital in another town.

Are you kidding me? There's a time and place for professionalism, that wasn't it. Why you shoulda....grrr. I'm glad you sicced a nurse on her cause...damn.

    Hope you feel better.

I always thought about what i would say to an SC if i saw them outside of work, can companies reprimand you for something you did off the clock, off company property, and out of uniform?

Like I've said before, some people just don't have room in their heads for anyone or anything but themselves.

          ...

I have had experiences of customers bugging me outside of work (Generally a "Sure, bring it by the store and one of us will take a look at it" gets them to understand I mean "Go DIAF, I'm not at that hell hole currently!"). However the idea of some one pestering you about your job when you are in the ER??????

You are a better person than I. Anyone doing something like that to me would have gotten the straight up "DIAF, I'm in Pain, GO AWAY!".

Depends on the situation, behavior and employer.

i've had that problem but never at an er; i think if i were able to speak (depending on my illness/injury) i'd tell them to bugger off and leave me the hell alone.

some people have NO concept of boundaries.
                look! it's ghengis khan!
Sorry, but while I can do many things, extracting heads from anuses isn't one of them. (so sayeth the irv)

If i am correct, yes they can. You can be fired for getting arrested for some serious charges.

Or rather, let's put it this way. You can not make comments on public places (forums and the like) and not be reprimanded for it. The best example i can come up with is when i worked at Red Lobster, we were denied the ability to make ANY negative comment about anyone/thing that worked or delt with Red Lobster. If we did, and someone saw it and commented about it to a manager, we would be in direct violation of company policy and would be told to resign.

Best advice i can give, is just don't do it. The OP was awesome at the ability to be professional. I applaud her for it. I know it would have been tough for me to do so.
I can only please one person a day, today isn't your day, and tomorrow doesn't look good either.

When someone asks you a stupid question, give them a stupid answer.

Shouldn't that be: Nurse Nancy in the ER with a cluebat.
