  • Music leads to info request...

    TL;DR version at the bottom.
So. A while ago, I stumbled upon a band called Rebellion (Itunes has its uses on occasion)
The album was "Arise - The History of the Vikings Part 3" and this album has alot of songs about the Gods and their deeds. Not to mention a good one with Loki defending himself, then threatening the others.
So I picked up "Sagas from Iceland" which is the 'part 1' album and I enjoyed this muchly too.

Being that I've taken a shine to German stance in SCA, and a comment by my friend that I'm the only one who can fit the stereotypical Viking look (I go up and out, others go round he says) I naturally like the Norse mythology.
So this music I do take with a grain of salt, being its music, but it has renewed my curiousity, so, can anyone here direct me to some good sites to research and learn more about the norse gods?

TL;DR - Music reminded me I like the Norse Mythology, can you point me at good sites on said topic?

Wikipedia actually has a pretty good section on Norse mythology to get you started.

Other than that, I don't know any specific sites without Googling them.

However, there is an online comic you might like: Brathalla (http://brat-halla.com/). It's a comedy, starts in black and white but moves to color after a few pages. Very tounge in cheek, but they draw from both Norse and other mythologies for their stories. They're on hiatus right now, but there's a ton of story archs already there for you to read. My favorite is Twilight of the Hod (Hod is my favorite Brat).

I'm rather a fan of Encyclopedia Mythica for most stuff pertaining to mythology. They cover everything from Celtic to Roman and everything in between. Including Norse. Happy researching!

Check out Bullfinch's Mythology. Good stuff; though not overly detailed, gives a good overview on Norse and Greek mythology. I actually downloaded it to my Kindle.

These are the gods of Asatru. Don't be put off by the word "Germanic." It's all related.

Actually met a girl named Freya at my bar a few weeks ago. She was a bit surprised that I knew the origin of her name, as apparently very few people do.
