I was on the grandstand they flew past. Mate of mine was on the track further back.

Both drivers are alive - one with concussion, the other back in the paddock within a few minutes.

I'm actually slightly more shocked that you all watch racing over there. I thought that was a southern American thing.

NOTE: I do not watch racing. However, it's huge down here.

It's MP4 and the footage I took from the grandstand. Doesn't show smoothly in Quicktime. Works fine in windows media player, so feel free to download it (about 4 Mb).

At the end you can see the driver's door (red car) open and the guy actually gets out under his own steam after the cut.

I don't know why, but it always strikes me at how... dodgy? Informal, I think is the word I want... informal these racing things are. I too thought it was a hick thing, but now I know! Glad everyone's (mostly) alright. Almost too much excitement.

There are plenty of lower leagues in the UK. They cost a huge amount to be in, though.

What gets me is that you can see the black car coming to rest and I missed that when filming. I had no idea he'd jumped out of the track.
