Oh, the stuff that happens on my day off...
Yesterday, a large fire took out a building that is just down the block from where I work. There is nothing left. I heard (rumour) that a furnace blew up or something. Everyone within a one-block radius has to evacuate because of smoke and the danger of a gas line exploding.
The building had the town's only video/movie rental store (the competition closed last year when the chain shut down) and a pizza/deli/lunch counter. The guy who owned the building has offices and stuff downstairs as well. I do feel sorry for the owners of the lunch counter... they just moved there last year and were JUST starting to get ahead in the money department.
Reports are that no one was hurt.
I've also heard that the business right next door (a hairdresser) survived with just a little smoke and water damage.
