  • Yay money?

(Mods: wasn't 100% sure if this should go in GWC or Sucky customer...)

I was cleaning the fitting room out today and basically found an entire week's pay sitting on the floor. (I don't want to give an exact #.) It was three digits, though. I could work a 12 -14 hour week (which is the typical amount right now b/c of cutbacks) and make that amount of money.

The fitting room stall was absolutely trashed. The girl or woman had tried on a ton of bras and dresses and just left them all over the floor and the hangers were tossed everywhere.

At first, I just picked up the money and stuffed it in my pocket because I thought it was just a couple of dollars. I was too pissed about the flippin' mess to go "oooh MONEY!"

Went home, cleaned out my pockets, and found this wad of money. I was very for a moment.

I already called the store and I'll be turning it in tomorrow. Maybe in a month, I'll get it if no one claims it. It just irritates me that someone can be so rude and careless. If they would have cleaned their mess up, they would have found all the money they left behind.

I almost wish someone would have come up and asked about it so I could be like, "Oh, was it in that stall with the HUGE mess in it? You know, with all those clothes on the ground and hangers tossed about?"

The fact that they didn't call says to me that they probably just mentally "wrote off" the money, and assumed someone else would find it and not report it.

Reminds me of this time I was stopping by the Borders in Fairfax, and as I'm going through the parking lot, I suddenly see several $10 and $20 bills fluttering by on the ground. Naturally, I stopped and caught as many as I could before the wind snatched them away, but I then stood up and looked around to see who had dropped it. There was no one else in the parking lot.

I stuffed my "windfall" in my other pocket, away from my own pocket money, went inside and asked at their information desk if anyone had come in to report they'd dropped some money in the parking lot. Nope. So I kept it.

    Got $120 all told.

Doesn't having a conscience suck? Whenever I run into a situation like that there is always that little niggling voice in the back of my head going "You know, most people wouldn't turn this in" :P

Was at the store today buying a leek, among other stuff to go in the soup. The cashier "weighed" the leek with one end on the belt and the other end on the carousel, so the middle was barely brushing the top of the scale. When it rang up at 17¢ I told him, "That can't be right."

He voided it off and re-weighed it properly. It came out $1.16. I said "OK, that makes more sense."

Guy was probably wondering why I didn't just take it and run, but I wasn't raised that way.

A co-worker and I once found a wad of cash on the sidewalk a block or so from work. She called the police station and they said you can either turn it in or keep it, up to you. She thought the cops might just keep it (her opinion, not mine) so she kept half & I kept half. I never felt right about it and eventually bought a money order with it and sent it to the local women's shelter.

Then there was the time I found several 20-dollar bills on the sidewalk near my house...right across the street from a house I was pretty sure was involved in drug sales. I was afraid one of the drug dealers dropped it so I didn't touch it, since I had no way of knowing who was watching.

Last time I found a wallet stuffed full of green that a customer lost, and then promptly returned it to the panicking customer with all of the green still intact, I got yelled at by my boss and written up for it.

The customer was beyond ecstatic at having his wallet found with the very large sum of money still inside it. I didn't count the money, but it was a lot of green. I of course had to open it up to see what it was or who it belonged to. Every last dollar was returned to the customer.

I still got written up for it.

One of the reasons why I no longer work there.

You did the right thing by returning the wallet so what in the world was their reasoning behind yelling at you & writting you up?

The other day, I was going into the grocery store when someone passed me a cart (he was going to his car to go home)....with his wallet still in the basket near the handelbar. Fortunately, I was able to get his attention and return it to him before he got the car started ^_^

Gah...ibble...WHAT?! That shitty manager just broke my brain. Good thing it's Sunday, I wasn't planning on using that rusty ol' thing today anyway >_<

My opening of the wallet to determine what the object was and who is belonged to was grounds for being written up.

Apparently I should have just left the wallet sitting on the edge of the cooler where the cheese was in alone, because examining the mysterious unattended object that looked sort of like a wallet was against the rules, never mind that I had been sent there specifically to recover an unattended wallet.

On the upside, a couple months later that same manager was escorted out of the building in shiny bracelets for stealing from the company.

I think what was going on was that because she was stealing she was projecting it onto everyone else, so because she was stealing money on a regular basis she assumed that everyone else also stole money as well, and thus, I had opened up the wallet with the intent to steal money from it.

If I had wanted to steal money from the wallet, why would I have even turned it in? Just slip it into my pocket and empty it out later on. I had to open it up to see what it was and who it belonged to, and almost every wallet has a driver's license in there which includes a helpful picture. Picture was the same as the guy who was panicking up at the registers, so I brought it on over to him. Every last dollar was still in the wallet according to him.

Another possibility is that said manager wrote you up for not just giving it to him/her directly, without drawing attention to it...so that the manager could be the hero, returning the empty wallet to the panicked patron

Sooo. I went to go ask about the money one month later and it mysteriously vanished. There are only a select number of people with access to where the money was locked up and they all say that no one claimed it. But noooo one knew what happened to it.

I pretty much didn't care but LP was all "bwuuuh?" and started an investigation. They didn't figure out what happened to it but upper management agreed I should be given $100.

I ended up with the money. YAY!

People always think everyone else is just like them.

You will never find a more paranoid bunch than thieves. This is why nice, honest people are always getting fleeced...they think everyone is nice and honest. Thieves and con men are harder to take...they're convinced everyone is a thief and a con man. Adulterers always think their spouse is cheating.

Hmm...doesn't say much for me that I tend to paranoia, I guess.
