  • Piercing enthusiasts, to me!

So I've finally gotten my original lobe piercings to the point where I can easily insert 16g barbells, and a friend gave me a pair of these:

Which I'm thrilled about since I lost one of my standard curved barbells, but I'm having the damndest time getting the ball screwed onto the end of this thing! Any tips other than patience and making sure the drain on my sink is blocked? I just can't seem to get the hole to line up.

Get someone else to screw it on for you, it's the easiest solution.

I may not be a piercing enthusiast, but I've worked with possibly more than my fair share of fiddly things in my (short?) time. Practice when it isn't in [body part]. Figure out a strategy, and why it changes when you put it in. Feel around for the thread... Good luck.

Ive tried doing them in the mirror, and it works sometimes. Even with my 0 gauges i still ask hubby to sometimes screw something in when I just cant get it.

Take that as you will.. Lol

Blocking the drain is a must, having someone to help is nice but not always convenient. A mirror is also a big help but the odd thing I find works both with the threads on my piercing balls but also in general life with threaded things is a technique called back screwing, I know, I know, mechanics have dirty minds for a reason. Anyhow, the technique is to twist in the opposite direction slightly at first so that the threads "catch" and straighten before trying to tighten down. You may have to try this a couple times but it might help and whatever you do, don't use too much force, if it doesn't work at first, stop, take a deep breath and try again. Trying to force it will just ruin the thread, with such fine thread and then the pretty becomes useless.

wow! Technical help! That is so darn nifty-- thanks Tawny! (It tickles me that a mechanic is getting in on this... yeah, I know, a mechanic probably made the design on the ring... but still!)
