  • HAPPY DANCE!!!

So my preliminary hearing just wrapped up. Probable cause was found to proceed with a formal trial, but my lawyer assured me that would happen and that our ONLY purpose today was to hear what the other side had to say and get information. Like last time, we're getting into actual "evidence" and testimony, so I don't think I can say a lot, buuuuuut.......

The detective who interviewed my kids was pretty well torn apart by my attorney. She had several "um....." moments in response to his questions. My favorite part was when he asked her if she had seen the recordings of the interviews with my kids. She said she had. He asked if she had noticed ANY inconsistencies with what they said. She said none at all. He then began to point out inconsistencies from our highlight reel. There's more, but again, I'm not gonna say much more than that right now.

The judge called a recess so she could view the DVD's of the interviews. Afterwards, she said she found no evidence of coercion, but it was clear that my ex "confides" in my daughter (she had to pause to think of how to put this). She had some questions, obviously, but again, this was only about discovery. No arguments were made because that's not what the prelim was for.

Court is set for next month. My attorney said if this is the best they can do, they are in serious trouble.

One other interesting thing. My ex was there. I didn't recognize her at all. She's had her hair done and colored, her make up was done, she had jewelry, she was looking very nice. Like she was going to go do something fancy to celebrate my demise or something. I don't know what she thought was going to happen, but she had several of her family members there. Too bad she made them waste their time coming down here for this. I have a top that is almost exactly like the one she was wearing. Should have taken a couple of my coworkers' advice and prettied myself up before court. We might have showed up wearing the same thing. That would have been priceless.

Lastly, the thing that just sent my mood even higher, was when I went back to court after the recess. I was waiting for my attorney around the corner from the courtroom because her family was waiting outside it. I heard my MIL say to someone that my ex had asked her if she noticed whether or not I was wearing a bra today. I had to fight the giggles at that one.

    glad it went well!
I've been in court before... can't imagine it's any less nerve-wracking for you no matter what had happened.

I had to pretend I was writing something down a couple of times because I was smiling so big whenever my lawyer stumped the detective.

This is why fans were invented, so one can coyly hide behind them. And fan oneself in stifling heat. In some churches in the South, they make the order of service 'bill'/'program' in the form of fans. It's nifty. :3 I can't wait to play Legend of the 5 Rings (fantasy/Japanese dice) or Exalted (kitchen-sink 'Asian' dice)-- I play ladies, and they have fans. Fans are my favorite props. Especially when they are weapons.
(waaay drifty. But still: YAY!! )

My brother got me a folding fan when he went to China. It's real purty.

Yay! *Dances with Kara* I hope the rest of it is this easy if it's not thrown out altogether. I would have had trouble keeping a straight face too!
