  • Woman banned from Walmart for Life!

I was wondering where to put this story, so I guess I will put it here in the Check it Out Forum:

    http://news.sympatico.ca/oped/coffee...he_us/68a37c58

I'm not sure if it belongs in the "Sucky Customers" forum, because she whipped out her iPhone and recorded the argument, or if it belongs in "Morons in Management" because the store manager grabbed it from her.

    Sorry,

[Mod Hat]Check it out is the appropriate forum. This is where links go. [/Mod Hat]

There's got to be more to this than the article indicates. How many of us have wished we could ban customers who have done far worse than having an argument with management over a coupon/price-match policy? it never happens, yet this woman has managed to get banned from EVERY WALMART IN THE US????

Yeah, she's probably been defrauding them with said coupons or is reselling the goods elsewhere at full price, or maybe made some sort of threat.

At the Wal Mart at my work, if you are banned for any reason; theft, disorderly, etc. that means you are banned from EVERY Wal Mart EVERYWHERE. I assume that's standard for every Wal Mart. Several other big stores do the same thing. I don't think they'll be hurting for her business, and there must have been more to the story. It's also a crime if the manager didn't know he was being recorded.

Slight correction: In twelve states in the US, all parties must know/consent to being recorded. Those states are California, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Illinois,
Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Montana, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Washington.

In the rest of the US, as long as one party to the conversation is aware/consents, there is no crime.

Furthermore, thanks to police and prosecutors, it has been established that, if you are in public or can be seen from a public place, you have no expectation of privacy and can therefore be recorded at will.

So, in this case at least, no laws were broken. She was well aware of the recording occurring, and it was not occurring in one of those twelve states.

She's so poor yet she can afford an iPhone and the plan that goes with it?

What did you think greeters were for? (They sure don't greet at my Walmart.)

I find it interesting the media didn't share the video.

Makes me think it did not show her in a good light.

                      This sentence:

Her husband is terrified that he too will be barred from the chain for speaking out against the retail giant.
just has me rolling my eyes. Really? you're "terrified" you won't be able to shop at a certain store...really?!?

The recording is almost certainly what got her banhammered--if that even happened.

She didn't violate any laws, but stores generally get twitchy when random people come in and start taking pictures or shooting video.

That and I do agree with the possibility of the coupons and possibly anything else she did that Walmart didn't take kindly that wasn't mentioned in the article. I have to say though that banning her from entering ANY Wal-Mart in the US...wow!

Huh, didn't know that about recording laws. But, technically the store itself is private property open to the public, which is why they can tell people no photos, no video, no inappropriate clothing, etc. I think the store could have at least kicked her out for that; I know mine would have, we have that rule too.

I'm a bit confused on why she was so upset in the first place..can't she still use her coupons with the changes to the price match? (not sure what the changes are) There has to be more to this story than this article lets on.
