  • Plaid Quilt

(Mods please remove this if it's innappropriate)

I've picked up some plaid fabric in blue, brown and cream to make a quilt to raise money for the CTF. I'll post some pictures of the fabrics tomorrow.

I think it would be a nice gift to Plaid's family if some of us would like to get a piece of plaid fabric and write a little note on it.

I'm thinking a 6 inch square of fabric, 100% cotton. Flannel will also work. It doesn't have to be plaid if you can't find one that you like. To write a message you'll need a non-water soluble ink. Sharpie works great, I use Fabrico markers, but at $4 each it's not a good plan for everyone. I figure most people either already have a sharpie or know someone who does.

EDIT: Please prewash your fabric before you cut your square and write on it. That will help make sure the ink shows up better.

Remember that they will be sewn together, so leave at least 3/4 of an inch space around the outside of the square so your message doesn't get lost.

I'll use this thread as a sign up sheet, and then when you have your square ready, post again and I'll PM you the address to mail them to. I'm glad to donate the rest of the materials for the quilt, and when I get it done I'll get his family's address, unless someone already has it and wants to PM it to me.

If there's any other crafty people, feel free to make something as well if you want to have a fundraiser, I don't want people thinking that I'm hogging things here.

I would like to participate. I probably will not be at Wal-Mart or stopping by JoAnn for a couple of weeks, though.

Would it be appropriate to use that felt-like material (I'm not sure what it's really called, my mom buys two at a time from a fabric store and makes throw blankets with them and frays the edges)? Or to buy a piece of fabric with a cat or Batman or something similar on it?

I believe that's polar fleece, and it really don't work well in a quilt.

Anything you think would be appropriate is alright with me. I don't want to limit people to just plaid fabrics.

Thank you for clarifying, that's the only fabric I'm familiar with when it comes to this stuff. I am certain I can find something that will work better

I will be stopping at my local quilt store (yeah, we have one in my town) tomorrow afternoon for my donation piece. I am doing a Minnesota themed piece.

I'd be happy to join in. Can we use any pattern or would you prefer plaid? (Plaid isn't common in New Mexico.)

I plan on stopping by my former place of work tomorrow and seeing what kind of plaid (or other fabrics Plaidman'd like) are available. I definitely want to participate in this. It's a wonderful idea.

He'd like one with kitties all over it. I'll look for that shortly, I may wind up going to Wally World this evening anyways.
