  • I escaped and had a laugh

I decided to finally quit the hotel. I was there four and a half years, which was way longer than I needed to be there. What can I say, I wanted to really make an attempt to like it, but I never could. Apparently hotels have to be in your blood (as a former manager told me when I started the job) and mine is hotel free. Oh, well. I can't say I didn't try.

To the laugh! I occasionally had a prank caller whose M.O. would be to ask if we had suites, then ask the pricee, then ask if I could hang on while he got his credit card. Soon after, I would hear the heavy breathing. It was no use hanging up, as he would just call right back. Eventually I would just set the phone down and go about my business, occasionally checking to see if he had hung up yet.

He called the last night I worked. This time, I had a snap inspiration. I got on youtube, put on the song That's the Way (I Like It) by KC and the Sunshine Band and stuck the phone on the speaker. He was still on when the song finished, so I played Good Times by Chic. He was still on by the time that finished, so I held the phone close enough to me where I know he could hear me and said that I would play Air Supply next. He got off the phone before I could start playing it. Heehee!

      Hello!!!

I am looking, but I had to get out. I would rather put 2 weeks in now while I am still relatively sane than go out in a blaze of glory, i.e. finally losing it and screeching at some jackass customer, flouncing out the door, then calling the manager to say I am through and would you kindly eff the hell off?

Haha I wonder how the new girls are going to handle the calls.

Ahhh, I remember my last day working in retail when I told one of the floor guys that he could **** off when he asked to speak to my boss. I was so sick and tired of people asking to speak to someone in charge to try to get me in trouble. Over two years of being free from customers and retail!

@ BeenThereDoneThat, I was thinking Air Supply would make him scream, and not in a good way.

            Thank you!

Good on getting out after 4 1/2 years. I've been trapped here for six! Going back to school, though, so someday I can be free...
