  • HELP!

A month post running away from the family, the hotel I was staying at for the employee rate finally said, "Enough" and booted me... that day, I found out my friend in NY found us a roommate in NY, and he can have us move in the beginning of next month.
This morning, I woke up about noon, with $50 to my name, my bank account is tapped currently, and I'm now stuck on the other side of Missouri from my friend, now with only $14 to my name, after I drove 4 hours to try to sell my car back to the company I bought it from, and, though they'll give me $11,000 for it, my loan is currently sitting at $13584.76... so, I would owe them $2613.68 just to take it off my hands.
I'm resigned to sleeping in the car tonight, but, if I can pull it out until Monday, my friend in NY might be able to send me money for a plane ticket... .

It's Sunday already. Could you do some work for food until Monday comes around, saving your cash?
Are there any friends close, online or real life, who could let you sleep on the couch and feed you tonight?
It seems your future is better, it's your present situation that sucks.

I agree. Work for food, soup kitchens, homeless shelters...

Sleeping in the car is doable. How far is it from Missouri to NY? You may be able to get a loan from your friends for petrol & food; & keep the car. Though if you're moving to NYC rather than upstate NY, I understand that a car tends to be a liability rather than an asset.

Short term, there's nothing wrong with eating oatmeal or bread & basically just putting bulk in your stomach. By short term, I do mean 'only a few days': you'll need vitamin C if nothing else after that.

Cold oatmeal porridge (or pea porridge, too) can be made just by putting water and oatmeal (or dried legumes) in a container together and letting them soak until edible. Salt, herbs, spices, and dried fruits can make either of those tastier, but right now it sounds like you're at survival level.

Cold tea can be made by putting water and tea leaves (or herbal-tea leaves) in a dark-coloured container in the sun for a while.

.... yes, I know Great Depression type poverty survival strategies. Why do you ask?

        Somewhere around 1200 miles.
Homeless shelters is a good idea, Imogene is homeless. She should be able to get some help. At least a cup of coffee and some bread-and-butter.

I cannot offer any help, or any useful input, but you'll be in my thoughts.

The major trouble right now is that I have... maybe $3 to my name... and the outlets in this McDonald's are turned off, so I have to travel back and forth between here and the nearby mall to charge up my stuff. And, with the $10 I put in my gas tank last night, I have around a quarter of a tank right now... I'm hoping that I can go to my bank tomorrow morning and get a small personal loan to finish the car payoff, with a bit left over to get a bus ticket...

I got up to grab a burrito from Taco Bell at the mall, ate it, and wandered the mall a bit, and started to tell myself, "I need that loan to be approved tomorrow... if it is, I can sell the car and hop a Greyhound. Otherwise, I wait a week and hop the Greyhound while abandoning the car. I don't liked driving as it is. If it absolutely comes to it, I suppose I could email my brother and see if he'd wire me some money to start that leaving process..." and just started to break down at the thought of having to call and admit I didn't plan any of this out, and I still need help.
Had I been smart about this whole thing, I would've just stuck to my original plan and left the next day, just so I would be in New York at least.

Don't abandon the car. You'd still have to pay off the whole loan.
I can't see why the bank wouldn't approve a loan of about $3000. They approved the car loan based on your income and that's the same still. It may take a few days.

I suppose the only reason you have so little money just now is that you have had more expenses, hotel and eating out and such.
When you get a place to stay and can start cooking for yourself, the money problem will be solved.

I agree with Mikkel's money assessment; and like others have said, homeless shelter.
Yeah... it might/is a little demeaning, but what other options are there? Begging for money on the street corner? At least it's not winter, where you run the very real chance of freezing in your car. Abandoning the car will land it in a police auction lot, and you get bupkis or worse. Try for the bank loan. What about selling off some of your stuff to pawn shops or on craigslist?
<-- if you want it... and remember, this is just a bit of a rough start. Things will get better.

Different bank, don't have a job now, just disability... and while the bank DOES auto loans, they won't do less than $7,500 for the loan...

No, it's the dead of summer, where I can never get cooled off enough outside...

I have a total of three things of value on my person now, besides the car:
                    My Zune
                    My Garmin GPS
And my laptop, which I traded my computer to get...
The only pawn shop I could get to yesterday only offered me $10 for my GPS... they don't take Zunes, and I'm not about to sell the laptop...

Ah, the good old "broil-to-death" option. I know it well.
Local universities with student unions might be able to accommodate, or libraries, at least until they close. Loitering isn't typically something they bitch about there, unlike at Starsuck's or such.
I too would not sell my computer.

In other news, of all the hygiene I can't fulfill right now, it's odd that the one that makes me feel the oiliest is not being able to wash my hair... wearing the same clothes days on end? No problem... can't brush teeth... Ocassional disgust... but liveable... no shampoo? Fuck me...

Sometimes major transport hubs will have public showers. (I know the bus/rail interstate transport hub in my home town does.)

New plan... my friend and I are both going to try to get loans tomorrow... if we can't get enough to pay off the car, I'm going to see if Carmax will be so good as to transport the car to NY for me, and I'll go by Greyhound. It might cost a bit to do, but then I'll have the car, and won't have to drive myself... One way or another, I intend to be out of Independence by tomorrow.

Use your GPS or computer to find a campground, and use their shower facilities.

There are many free ones to be had at National, state, or county parks. They usually have oversized sinks so you can wash your clothes too. I usually use basic Dove soap for that.

Ramen noodles are cheap. Add hot water, and stir.
