  • Working my first graveyard shift

For some reason I got pushed from 2nd shift to graveyard for one night, good thing I'm off tomorrow. The rewarding side is that while the other guy working graveyard is on break/lunch, every call from/to a deaf user in BC/AB/SK/MB/ON/QC goes through me!

I survived and even managed to stay awake through it all thanks to a can of Monster Khaos. Now I just have to wait for my bus, go home and straight to bed.

The VERY reduced workload I had last night was kinda nice (I completed less than one call an hour). Working nights when I'm not used to it, therefore throwing off my internal clock, is what I found hard to deal with.

          I second that.

It's been nominated and seconded, I call for a vote!

Anyway, there are two types of 3rd shifters, the naturals and the necessaries.

The naturals prefer this shift, and actually seek out the position (like me and my mom).

The necessaries take the job because they have to, either just to have a job (or because the boss needs you to), or to accept a promotion (like my BIL).

Just to clarify - I had one night scheduled, now I'm back to my usual 2nd shifts

I'm a night-owl. It's past 3 am and I'm up, with no reason to be.

I've been a night shifter so long even my 1 year old has a night shifter schedule. Although I am enjoying not working for a bit, tbh.

If I were single, I'd be tempted to try overnights at my call center. True, they have to know a little bit about almost all of the different verticals we take calls for, if the clients have 24/7 order entry or whatever...but it seems like they have a lot of fun and get away with a lot too. They do have a supervisor on duty every night but they're still surfing the web, eating at their desks, talking loudly (and often inappropriately - some makes me laugh and some doesn't), etc. And I really am a night owl, have been since I was probably about 7 or so. My current schedule is more like a second shift though I start earlier than most traditional 2nd shifts do...it's kind of a pain because not being a morning person I rarely get up in time to get anything done before work and by the time I'm done everything is closed. Oh well.
"I was only LOOKING, I didn't mean to enter my card's CVV and actually ORDER! REFUND ME RIGHT NOW!!"
