  • When it rains...

The fast 4 days at "Slowway" have solidified my resolve to find a new job. ASAP if not sooner.

Thursday: Store is a mess, we are busy, I'm trying to be 2 people at once, phone won't stop ringing, every other store in the district wants something from us, and customers are stupid.

Friday: Blissful freedom!!! Except the boss calls me. Twice. And texts me. Twice. Before I'm up. You'll see why in a minute.

Saturday: I'm supposed to be off. A manager called Thursday from another store. What he wanted was bodies. He fired two people in 3 days. I feel bad for the guy, and worse for his assistant (poor guy was pulling an 11am-6am Thursday into Friday). I agree to pull second shift for him Saturday. When I agreed to such, I completely forgot that this store (which I was offered a position at when I got hired but asked for a different store due to the slimeball clientèle) is located on a street that is shut down one weekend annually for a car show. This weekend. I kick my own butt, but I need the monies. Now back to Friday's frantic calls from Boss (who is thoroughly sick). E quit Friday. E was supposed to work second shift Saturday. So now I'm not working at other store. I'm working at my store. Day is frustrating. We are busy, I'm trying to be 2 people, and customers are stupid. And I get cussed out for following policy (but alas I've already posted that one in the Sucky Customers thread).

Sunday: We're short staffed because E was supposed to be our 4 hour support person. We come in, store is a mess, we are slammed, I'm trying to be 3 people, and customers are extremely stupid. By the time I get home I veg out on CS all night, not even bothering with my overpopulated DVR.

Cue Today: I walk in to work and it looks like hells gates have erupted in my store. Last night was a truck night. Meaning the guy on 3rd puts what he can away on the floor, everything in the back and cooler is done by 1st shift....usually. Boss worked all weekend. Therefore Boss is off today. Which is for the better seeing as she now has walking pneumonia. Yuck. Food guy M left halfway through his shift for ER with chest pains. A has been trying to do her job, M's job, and the part of truck that Boss usually does as brand new Co-manager, O, has never had to handle Monday paperwork on his own and is drowning in it. So when I come in, the back has stacks 5 feet high of truck that hasn't been put up, there is little coffee or food, and once again something has gone wrong and our iced tea has soured, requiring me to spend 10 minutes making that fresh as well. O leaves. It's me, N, and J. Just as we are getting control over the store (not the back mind you, the back is just gonna have to sit till tomorrow), the phone rings. It's M. He's been admitted and can I call Boss cause he won't be in tomorrow. "Of course M. Feel better. Keep us updated. Kthxbai."
Boss: "Cruuuuuuuuuuuud. Who's on tomorrow?" I read schedule off. "Okay, I'll call you back."
At this point, my poor Pepsi delivery guy is standing around just watching me pull my hair out. I try to check him in. Phone rings. It's coworker V needing her schedule. Relay info and tell her M (who she is good friends with) is in hospital and fill her in on that.
Go back to Pepsi guy. Count less then half of order. Phone rings again. It's Boss. I tell her to hang on, look at Pepsi guy, tell him I have no choice but to just trust him and sign on the line. Boss wants me to call O and have him cover M's shift and then between myself, J, and N one of us needs to cover 4-8 tomorrow. I politely point out to the pair that I worked my previous day off and if I pick this up I will be working 10 days straight. Neither will step up. If either had, Boss would not have to pay me OT tomorrow. Whatever, I REALLY need the monies. Call bf and tell him to cancel all plans for day off together. FML.
At this point I happen to glance across the store and notice the doors that hold the 6 packs and singles of beer are nigh on empty. Double FML as I didn't bring a jacket. So I use coworker B's jacket, which is 2 sizes too small. Whatever, it covers my chest and arms and most of my back. I spend 2 hours in the cooler. Only get beer done. Did not stock pop, tea, water, or energy drinks.
I do believe it was somewhere near when J was getting ready to leave that my give a hoot crapped out. I could have filled in the gaping hole in the iced tea. I went out for a smoke instead. Boss can deal with it tomorrow. New record today, I was trying to be 5 people. (The normal 2 I do the work of, the boss, O, and some of M.)

I am going to a job fair on Wednesday. If ANYONE offers me a job making even EXACTLY what I do now, I'm taking it. Been dealing with Slowway for over a year now. I need out.

Thank you for indulging my rant. I feel better now.

Wow. I can sympathize, I've had days like that.

That is just a mess. A complete mess.
Customers should always be served . . . to the nearest great white.
