  • Suck or No Suck?

Last Thursday I was leaving work at midnight and was hungry, so I stopped off at the Wendy's which I knew to be open until 1 am (the time was approx 12:20 am) and pulled up to the drive thru speaker to order (mmm spicy chicken), but received no response. No "just a minute" or "we're closed." No response at all. I sat there for a minute or two thinking that eventually they would know I was there, but got nothing. Not wanting to cause a ruckus, I just drove off and went home. As I came around the building, both workers inside stepped into the dining room and watched my car the whole way around the building. It felt kind of weird that they were staring at me. So, was there suck on the part of the workers for not acknowledging me or am I making too much of it?

You've done nothing but stop by. Stopping by isn't a problem unless you want to intrude on a bathroom I'm cleaning.

I'd say, yeah, they sucked. Even if they were closed early for some reason, they could have acknowledged that you were there.

Either something was broken (which I doubt), there was a personnel problem (which I doubt), or they were playing hide-and-seek with the customers (as in, they didn't want to get their cleaning work dirty-- I guess this). It was probably a slow night, and they were dreading you having a fifteen sandwich, forty sides, and twenty drink order. They need to get ahold of the fact that that shit happens, and you didn't stop by fifteen (or even two) minutes before close, and they're still open. Yes, some cleaning needs to be done before close, but that must not stop normal operations of business!

They were sucky, but only if they were still open. When I worked fast food, we stopped acknowledging people who stopped at the drive thru after close. Two main reasons for this 1) We could've been closed for a full hour already, yet every drunk idiot in the drive thru would demand we serve them anyway. 2) What employee after close is going to gleefully keep wearing the earpiece/headgear for drive thru? It's hot and sweaty, we chucked it the moment we could.

The Wendy's in the city I work in does this to my bf and his friend EVERY weekend!

There are two Wendys in the city I live in (the bigger city). They both have hours posted on the doors and drive thru window. They are open until 2 am on Friday/Saturday nights, midnight all other nights (drive thru, lobby closes at 10).

One would think the other one would be the same. No. They have no hours posted anywhere to be seen. At least, nowhere you can see by driving past.

There are always lights on, but I'm assuming that's for safety. Bf and his friend have even taken early lunch at 10:30 at night to get there before 11. No one at the drive thru. No one acknowledges them. There are people inside.

They gave up. We did go there together last Sunday at 2 pm, but bf joked "Maybe they'll see my car and be "closed" again!"

One thing that might have happened is that the headsets malfunctioned. This happens to me sometimes when it is late at night and I am the only one wearing a headset. If the battery dies I don't know until I get someone angry at me for not responding to them. Then if I'm cleaning something and I see someone drive by I will stare at them thinking "Did they go through the drive thru and I didn't hear them? Better check my battery."
Another possibility is that their hours changed. The Wendys my boyfriend works at recently changed their hours, but hasn't updated their signs for whatever reason.

Neither one of these possibilities is your fault though.

They may also have closed early due to lack of traffic. I had a Blockbuster near me that would do that if they were having a really light night. No sense in staying open when you're not getting enough business to pay for the lights being on.
