  • Realization of a Dream

If any of you follow me or my blog, you know that I am a Michigan Wolverine fan. As of late, I have been given the opportunity to take pictures of the Eastern Michigan football from the sidelines. This past weekend, Eastern played Michigan and the person I'm taking picture for managed to snag me a sideline pass for the Big House. I've been to several games there but never on the field. It was pretty cool. Anyways:

The trip to the Big House is an adventure itself.

And the game....but it pretty much was pre-ordained.

And some of the post game shots.

    That is really cool! Congratulations.

I am hoping to do somewhat similar work for the 49ers in the next couple of years.

It's not really work (i.e., I don't get paid) so much as I am taking pictures for an Eastern Michigan blog. However, it is good practice and might lead to me taking pictures at the Big House more often. Or so I hope.

Have you done any sports photography before? Taking pictures from the field is alot different than taking pictures from the stands. You get better shots but it is tougher.

"So in a game like this, I hope for a good game where nobody gets hurt."
Very good sentiment-- I'll have to remember this for other areas of my life... like sister versus boyfriend (for whatever reason... )
"Is it the lie that keeps you sane? Is this the lie that keeps you sane? What is it?Can it be?Ought it to exist?"
"...and may it be that I cleave to the ugly truth, rather than the beautiful lie..."

It is still a job. Just one that you enjoy.

No, but I do some web based work for the 49ers right now, and I am moving out to San Francisco in April to begin my degree in Digital Film and Video Production at The Art Institute of California--San Francisco. My ultimate goal with the team and organization is to use my current (unpaid) role as a stepping stone for a position in the media department. They have TV49 on the website as well as several locally produced shows each week (ie a coaches corner). I want to be the one behind all of that. Hopefully this will lead to field passes as well.

There are very few sporting events where I have that attitude though. Most of the time, I want one team to pummel the other. However in this case, I like both teams and they are basically playing each other to play each other (although the nice check that Eastern gets for travelling 7 miles to the west helps).

Well, good luck. For some practice, you might want to see if you can do pictures for a local high school or something. I know that I'm new for shooting from the sidelines, but it is alot different. The viewing angles are different for one and if you set up in the endzone, the plays are coming right at you. And when you have the perfect shot, some linebacker or something will come into view for you. Or you end up getting a nice shot of one of the refs.
