  • Considering the day...

Reflect on the muppets from your childhood, remember Jim Henson fondly (maybe talk about your memories), and then watch the vids on their youtube channel. (I'd like to think he'd like that)

Rainbow Connection has always made me feel weepy. I used to feel silly for letting a song from the Muppets effect me that way, but I finally just gave into it. It's a fantastic song.

And of course, I loved Labyrinth and The Dark Crystal, though I didn't see them until college. I loved that Henson never stuck with just what he knew already worked, he kept pushing forward and trying new things.

Man, I still miss him. He died way too young.

Today is also Steve Whitmire's birthday. For those that don't know, he has been preforming Kermit since Jim Henson's passing.
I'm going to watch Labyrinth later with some friends.

No, listen, you can't bloody post A Boy and His Frog here. You can't I'll listen to it and I'll cry goddammit too late...

Also, yes to the Green Album - it's awesome. Most of the songs are the classic versions, other than Ok Go doing the Muppet Theme. Still awesome.

One of my favorite trivia stories from the Muppet Show is when the late great Buddy Rich was on the show.

The drummer behind Animal,Ronnie Verrell, had never met Buddy but was a big fan of his.Turned out that Buddy was a fan of Ronnie & they hit it off right away.

That's why they had such a great time playing together

That reminds me of one specific memory I had as a kid. There was a Muppet show that Mark Hamill was on. But at the end, if I recall correctly, they had Luke Skywalker come out as Hamill was also on screen - I think the excuse was that they were "cousins."

I remember that, today, as Henson having a great way of trying to preserve the magic of childhood. In the world of the Muppets, the actor and the character could be separate people.
