  • Kitchen Nightmares, New Season (spoilers)

Jester's thread about the new season of Hell's Kitchen inspired me to post this one about Kitchen Nightmares. Anyone else happen to catch the first ep of the new season (last Friday)? I thought it was pretty disgusting, actually, and I'm not talking about the 'food' that they were putting out at the beginning of the show...even though those chitlins looked ass-nasty. I'm talking about the behaviors of the owner's daughter (OD) and her husband/fiance (ODM).

Look, I understand stubbornness. I can be extremely stubborn and resistant to help when I want to be. However, I also have eyeballs and a brain and can see that there is a time to say 'Nope, I can do this myself' and a time to say 'Oh shit. I need help.' At no point did these people (again, talking purely of the owner and her man. Everyone else wanted the help and practically begged for it)'s brains switch gears into that mode of 'I need help'. Here's a recap of what, in my opinion, was the worst of the worst of what happened at Blackberry's:

    1) The whole thing with the rat. Ramsay, upon walking into the restaurant on day 2, found a dead rat by the front door. ODM, upon being told about it, said 'Do you have it on tape that you found it there?' before running off to tell OD that Ramsay planted the rat there to boost the show's ratings. OD then later cut Ramsay off when he was explaining what he found by saying, "Yeah, the rat you planted. I know, and it's ok. I understand."

    2) OD claimed that she's 'tried' to be open-minded before and that she does listen. However, during the meeting with all the staff, she pretty much spent the entire time snickering, rolling her eyes, and talking over people anytime *anyone* said anything negative about her.

    3) Upon being told that she could not get her hands into *everything* and to let people do their jobs without her meddling, OD freaked the hell out and stormed off to her office to pout, where she stayed the rest of the time even after her mom told her to go out there and apologize for being such a whiny bitch.

    4) Ramsay: *after the brilliantly successful dinner service, goes to Owner's office* "Can I talk with you a few minutes?"
OD: *indignant* "Isn't this my office? And you're asking me for a few minutes? No."

Exactly how ungrateful, stupid, and arrogant do you have to be do pull half of this crap? I'll tell you who should be running that place- The owner's mom. She was a very sweet, very polite lady who apparently makes a damn good red velvet cake and knows when it's time to admit that there's a problem.

EDIT: Apparently, according to the website, the mom is the owner and her stubborn-piece-of-crap daughter is the GM.

EDIT 2: Sorry. Forgot to add the spoiler tag. Thanks, whoever added it in there. ^_^ The spoilers have now been whited out and will require highlighting to see.

I saw that episode. I wanted to slap her silly. I didn't even know that the mother was the owner. At that point she should of taken the reigns away from her daughter. Maybe hired someone who could actually run the place correctly.

I hate how in the end she is all cheery and going oh I love everything and all happy and blissful, after being such a jerk before then I wouldn't be surprised if she claimed editing made her look bad or she claims she made the changes.

Accusing Ramsay of planting the rat boggled my mind. I like how his reaction was to get everyone together and go "Fuck all of you, I'm leaving" until chuckles grovelled in apology.

By the sounds of it, it wasn't until a few weeks later that the daughter began to have a change of heart. She certainly didn't have shit for gratitude while Ramsay was there. If it wasn't for her mom, Ramsay probably would have left half way through the taping.

Certainly one of the more delusional owners the show has come across over the years. Though no one tops that bitch on the UK version who after Ramsay redid her whole restaurant and found her an awesome chef that moved to Paris just for her restaurant.....she shut the whole place down ( leaving this poor young chef penniless in the middle of Paris ) because it was too much of a bother and didn't even tell him. Wouldn't even talk to him.

He ended up hiring the chef himself if I recall. I always get a laugh when he pulls a "Fuck you guys for not seeing talent, *I'll* hire them" on one of his various shows.

I liked the reference he made to the British version of his show and the first episode he did - Mama Cheri's Soul Food Shack.
          Random conversation:
Me: Okay..so I think I get why Zoro wears a bandana
          DDD: Cuz it's cool

So, by using the Doctor's reasoning, bow ties, fezzes and bandanas are cool.
