  • It's like living with teetotallers...

Ok, so I'm not the only one in my house who drinks. But I'm certainly the one who drinks with the most regularity and I tend to drink much harder stuff than they do. The last few weeks, I've had a hard time going to sleep, so occasionally (not every night), I'll try to mix something up that will get me just relaxed enough to drop off. Problem is, I can't afford new booze right now, so I've gotta make do with what we have.

Which means the last two times have been chocolate milk with Kahlua. SIGH. We have GOT to get some brandy around here...

Chocolate milk with Kahlua? I must try this...

Hubby's currently obsessed with Kraken spiced rum. If you mix it just right with Coke, it tastes like carrot cake.

This I will have to try. When the bottle gets replaced. (It got taken to a party and stolen. ) Any hints for the ratio?

Tastes like carrot cake? You say that like it's a good thing.

        I despise carrot cake.....

That reminds me, i have a recipe for a killer Black Russian cake. I need to make that again...

It's basically yellow cake mix with chocolate pudding mix, vodka, and Kahlua. Then a glaze of rum, butter, and sugar.

I enjoy Kahlua with chocolate almond milk (I was vegan for a while and liked almond milk better the soy.) But then I can't stand the taste of most alcohol. I tend to drink Kahlua/Baliey's or AfterShock.

                  YES, recipe!

@Arctic: I don't really know the ratio. It was a happy accident when he mixed it for my friend; he pours it freehand, not measured. His own drink didn't taste the same. He's going to pick up another bottle tomorrow and I'll see about getting a shotglass and getting some measurements.

But damn, that is some good rum. And I'm not a rum drinker. You take the tiniest sip and the mixture of the alcohol and the spices makes your entire body tingle and warm up. I can't wait for winter.

Oh, I don't need precise measurements, just a guestimate so I can have a starting place. I'm a cheap drunk, y'see, and I'd like to get it right while I can still stand upright.

I think he made my friend's drink light because he didn't have much rum left at the time. He just cracked open a can of Coca Cola, she drank some off the top, then he added a bit. So it wasn't very much. If you acquire some, just start with a little and work your way up till it tastes right.

Ok, this is from the cookbook of the org I so recently worked for. It's actually a pretty good cookbook.

1 18-oz package yellow cake mix
                        4 eggs
                        1/4 cup vegetable oil
                        1/4 cup Kahlua
1 5-oz package chocolate instant pudding mix
                        3/4 cup strong brewed coffee
                        1/4 cup vodka.

Preheat oven to 350. Grease a tube or Bundt pan. Mix together the cake mix, eggs, oil, Kahlua, pudding mix, coffee, and vodka, until smooth. Pour into the pan and bake for 50 minutes; cool.

                        Glaze:

                        1 cup sugar
                        2 tablespoons butter
                        1/4 cup water
                        1/4 cup rum

Mix the sugar, butter, water, and rum in a saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a boil, then cool slightly. Pour the glaze over the cake.

Guaranteed to be a hit at any party.
