  • Skynet is eliminating humanity

My cinema has gone digital. The projectors are all digital and they are controlled from a sever. The server, once it is programmed, can run all the films. Currently the job of projectionists is largely to monitor the films and ensure they start correctly and there are no problems. During the week we program the server.

But the cinema chain I work for has decided that it may be able to do without projectionists. They are starting a trail run in a couple of cinemas to see how it goes.

So it won't be long before my job will have been eliminated by a machine.

    FUCK.

Is there some way you can learn how to fix the projectors and computer? That's the thing about a job being taken by a machine: there's still a job, its just taking care of the machines instead of doing what the machine is doing now.

Sure, right, computerized stuff never breaks. Geek King has a great suggestion. Having someone who's worked as a projectionist and can repair the equipment is a killer combination.

The company has about 6 engineers that cover the country and deal with repairs.

I have been on the lookout for other projectionist jobs. But as digital takes over there are less opportunities.

Unfortunately, from talking to my neighbor (runs a chain here), this is going to be the norm going forward. Less physical deliveries, less people needed, more money charged. It sucks, cause while the new films are crisp, and HD... I sometimes kinda miss film.
