Okay, where did you two go on your honeymoon to bring fleas home to your cats?

Fleas this year have been bad. I don't usually use anything on my cat but this year I had to. They were in the bed and driving me nuts. I deflead her and washed all the bedding in hot water to get rid of them.

Vacuum a lot. It picks up about 40% of the horrible little buggers. Check with your vet for something safe that you can use on the cats and/or around the house. You have my sympathies. I hate fleas.

Someone thwap Peds for me, please. I'm too tired.

The fleas apparently aren't bothering the cats TOO much, they've just had a wrestling match over a box. Picking up Advantage tomorrow or Wednesday from the vet - since there's no sign of them on either of us, it seems like it's a recent (and minor) infestation, so treating the cats and vacuuming should take care of it. We've kept them out of the bedroom since we found the first fleasign.

I hate those nasty bloodsuckers too, since I've moved to a stable home ( I'll post that story when I get to a puter) with pest control, I haven't seen many at all.

Good luck! They can be a PITA to get rid of.

Tell me about it. I had a cat with fleas and no matter how much Advantage I used, flea collars, flea powder, flea dips, he still had fleas. They infested my bedroom and made me miserable. NO amount of flea bombs in the house worked.

I finally had to get a pest control company to come and get rid of them.

I used the high-strength stuff from the vet when my indoor cat got them somehow. Just put a little bit on the back of her neck once a month for three months, and it killed every one of the bloodsuckers in the house. Haven't had a recurrance since.

                    Good luck with it.

Rob is currently running a carpet shampoo monster around the upstairs of my Mom's house, she came up with fleas somehow [she had her 24 year old cat put down earlier this year, so there should be no fleas around. I think that my brother picked them up visiting a friends house for a long weekend last time we were up to give him a break.]

We didn't know she had flea troubles and brought our cat along with us because we are going to be here for the week She is now terrified of the evil monster sounds coming from the hallway. He did this bedroom first to clear the area for her.

I use Frontline on my kitty and (touch wood) she seems to have escaped the pesky little critters so far.

In the past when kitties have brought unwelcome visitors home, I've used something called Indorex on carpets and furnishings. It is truly evil stuff - I waited till I was going to work, then sprayed the whole house and locked the door behind me - but it does do the trick, I came home (immediately opening all the windows) and wasn't bothered by them any more.

Fleas and other insects are developing resistance to pretty much all the insecticides out there. There's one sure cure for infestations though. You'll have to jigger your heating system's thermostat, since most won't go high enough, but you want to get your living space above 110 degrees for a few hours. This will kill not only fleas, but bed bugs and cockroaches (though the roaches can move fast enough to vacate and come back later).

I had a Maine Coon cat that fleas loved! He was so eat up with them and no topical stuff worked, I gave him Capstar which only works a short while.. I had to shave him as his fur was matted with flea shit. My vet gave him an overnight IV and subcutaneous fluids for a week, he was so drained.. Poor thing, without his fur and malnourished due to the fleas, he looked pathetic. He was one of my otherwise healthy feline leukemia fosters.
