  • Right when I needed some cheering up

So I've been out of work for a year, and a few weeks back my unemployment ran out. I've been seriously bummed about that as you can imagine, especially since I've been diagnosed with arthritis this year and my insurance went up a lot shortly after I was laid off. While I've been laid off I've been trying to do small jobs to make some money, dog sitting. Then some photography work for a local ren faire, while I didn't make much money the faire has helped me TONS with getting my self esteem up and some good work relations. Actually the faire has helped so much that people who have known me for years have said I've changed a lot and for the better, I smile more, I'm more confident and I don't wince when people talk to me.

Anyway in the past day I've gotten some good news for jobs, one my boss from the faire reminded me to use him on applications and that he will make sure I get the job when potential employers call.

Later in the day I got a email from one of the actresses from the faire saying her husband is starting up an acting group and would like me to do the photo work soon, while it wouldn't be for much money since they are just starting it would be great for my portfolio and I could have a little bit more money.

Then this morning one of my Aunts called me saying one of her coworkers is a photographer as a side business and needs a 2nd photographer for a large wedding next year. While it won't be making me money til next year after seeing my work he is interested in talking with me and having me tag along on a smaller job to get an idea of how a wedding shoot would work. Then possibly using me sometime this year.

So, I'm happy, slightly less stressed and now feeling a little more creative which has been good for adding photos to my portfolio since I've been feeling adventurous in what I want to try. Hopefully these leads keep coming in so I have a bit of money coming in until I find a full time job. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

Many good thoughts coming your way!!! I just found my old camera (curse you gnomes) and have gotten back into it. The hubby has been doing more and got my itch to do it again.

And reading your stories certainly have helped

Thanks, I'm glad you are getting into it. I'm guessing you are in the Seattle area which means you have some awesome places to go shoot. I started out running around with my first camera at the Chittenden Locks and botanical garden when I was visiting family out there.

Yes, Seattle area. Have a few places, though the mountains are not happening right now with the snow. No like driving in snow. I am hoping to make the Tulip festival next spring. Also hoping to hit Zoo Lights this year. Must find tripods. I love your pics

And talk the hubby into a Canon t2i body when the tax return comes

Thank you, and I LOVE the zoo out in Seattle, heck I love all the animal parks I've been out to in Washington, there were a couple I went to when visiting Sequim that were fun too. I really wish I could get back out there, sadly I can't afford to fly across the country and may not be able to do it for a long time.
I hope you get your camera, btw if you haven't already looked Newegg has some great deals on cameras, that is normally where I get a lot of my camera or lenses.

Thank you! Hopefully it continues to be that way. I'm applying for a important job next week once I get all my references together, hopefully they over look me being fluffy (it was on the criteria list since its an uniformed town job.) and hire me for the resume and background, which in an ideal world would happen, but who knows, I understand why its part of the criteria.
