  • Advice Columnist, Ask Amy, takes on story of horrible boss

    It's the 12/23/2011 column

Letter writer says her boss (20 years her junior), makes her stay in the same hotel room with her when they travel on business. The boss leaves bathroom door open when she's doing "stuff" and yells out comments/questions. She walks around in just a thong in the room. The woman can't even order her own room service breakfast nor can she make the in-room coffee (boss doesn't like the "taste").

    2 kickers:

    1. The woman has just bought a multimillion dollar mansion.

    2. When the letter writer was in another city on business by herself, the boss suggested woman stay at her (boss's) brother's house to "save money" for the company.

Ms. Amy Dickerson (the columnist), gives a great answer.
And you're welcome (in regards to my avatar).

That could be considered sexual harassment, since her boss walks around nearly naked in her employee's presence. It's a business trip, so it's not strictly personal time. That woman is nutz.
When you start at zero, everything's progress.

I'm betting the boss isn't even aware that a female can most certainly sexually harass another female.

Hostile work environment, sexual harassment....yep that's all fine ingredients for a lawsuit.

To be fair, the LW said it was a million dollar house, not multimillion.

But, I don't understand why the LW couldn't drink the in-room coffee by herself. If the boss was all about saving money then she'd jump at the chance not to have to buy coffee for the LW elsewhere. I think this is most likely the boss harassing <sexually & otherwise> and not about saving money. Bosslady is on a powertrip.
