  • My dad's Ebay customer whine

My dad buys, refurbishes and resells older (60's, 70's and '80s) film cameras. Most of them are considered collectible and he sells them quickly. Around the beginning of December he put a whole bunch of completed cameras and accessories up for sale to get the house cleared in time for Christmas visitors.

Today he received the following message in his Ebay communications: (comments are just his thoughts, he didn't actually send this back, he's just ignoring the SC)

Here’s a whiny message I got from some buyer on ebay who, by the way, never contacted me until AFTER the item sold (whiner did not identify the item he was supposedly following we're just assuming it was a camera).

    1. “I hope you had a good Christmas” Well in fact I did have a good Christmas and It was enhanced by reading your funny message, Thanks!

    2. “I have been watching this item almost from the day you listed it……I might have bought it if you did not have a paypal attitude” Well, and I might have bought stock in Microsoft in 1984 and been a BuZilliionaire now, but I didn’t

    3. “Have you ever heard the saying the customer is always right?” Yes, I’ve heard that saying but it is not true for the customers trying to take advantage of the system or cheat the business.

    4. “I only deal in CASH !(I am fed up with banks)” Well, I DON’T ask for cash on Ebay because I strongly doubt any bright Ebay buyer would be willing to risk it, nevermind the fact that Ebay states “never pay for items with cash or instant money transfer services, such as Western Union or MoneyGram. In the past some sellers have exploited these payment methods in order to defraud buyers, so eBay has banned them from the site.” If you really wanted the item and “might have bought it” why didn’t you ask if I would take a personal check or money order? I would have waited for the check to clear your bank before sending the item off to you.

    5. “So good luck finding someone that will buy on your terms” So far I’ve had very good luck selling on my terms thank you very much!

    6. “If you did not have a palpal attitude ” Selling on Ebay using “PalPal” has worked very well for me and my customers. I get quick payment that has a paper trail and is recorded in my account history. It makes it easy to apply refunds/adjustments if necessary, both buyer and seller have an undeniable record of the transaction, and my customers have a quick and secure method of paying. Pretty much risk free, for a small fee.

    7. “ I know if I wait long enough I will find a nice clean camera from a seller that's more intrestered in making a sale than playing palpal games“ You obviously waited too long for the chance to buy my camera. You could have sent me a message asking if I would accept a check or money order, both of which are acceptable currencies on Ebay (with the seller’s permission).

I thought the ONLY option to pay was with PayPal, or am I missing something? And who buys with cash on eBay. Oh I remember... those willing to make the drive for local pickup.

Wow! Back when I still had a job, I'd shop on ebay all the time. Mostly for "Magic, the Gathering" cards. I'd never dream of sending a seller that kind of message.
Customers should always be served . . . to the nearest great white.

"I don't have paypal and I'm going to make you feel bad until you give me compesation."

I'd say that guy is just being an asshole but I can't smash the keyboard hard enough to show how much of one he is being.

Ebay does support one or two other payment services (I even registered with Moneybookers), but if you even mention cash, check, or money order in your listing, you get an automated warning while posting, and Ebay reserves the right to cancel your listing if you actually solicit cash, check, or money order in your listing.

That buyer was a complete idiot, and if he wants to pay some way other than Paypal, he needs to ask BEFORE the auction ends, not bitch about it after not bothering to ask if there were other options.

When I was listing on ebay, I found that "please contact me about other payment methods" seemed to get past the censors.

I once got a lovely rant from someone I had outbid. It went something like this "how dare you i have cancer how could you deprive a cancer patent [sic] of the one thing that would make me happy b4 i die yu heartless asshole"

The item? A black poet/pirate shirt.

A few weeks later s/he messages me again wanting to buy it off me 'i'll pay you what my bid was please please give this to me"

It's an auction, I wanted it more than you, deal with it. About a week later I get a message from another seller...apparently the bidder begs for freebies a lot. We compare notes, and he got a different sob story...I think he actually asked the bidder if they had cancer and the reaction was 'holyshit I've been caught" and furious backpedaling during which they dug themselves an even deeper hole. In the end there were about ten of us who managed to get them kicked off ebay (this was back in the day when ebay actually did something about scammers).

                Huh?

If he did not buy an item from you, how can he be a customer?

And why does he think you can't sell items with PayPal, when what he wanted to buy from you was already sold before he could get around to contacting you?

Some people absolutely loathe PayPal, even though it's free for the person receiving the money or for the buyer of an auction (seller pays the fee). But you don't have to give them your bank information if you don't want to (the recipient that is, senders of course do). You can ask for a check.

I don't get the problem, myself. I've used it since it came out and always had a wonderful experience.

Then again, I'm sure scammers hate them.

Lots of people despise Paypal for a lot of reasons, some stupid, some very good (Google for paypal horror stories, and look at their fee schedule). There's nothing wrong with disliking Paypal (I use them, but wish I had other realistic options), but I can't abide SCs who don't bother to try something else, then complain.

Would you mind PM'ing me with his eBay ID? I might be interested in bidding. (heck, for all I know I might already have bought stuff off of him.)

(Although I tend to buy much older stuff than that; still, if he's got some decent Minolta MF gear I might be interested.)

Question, how had is it to make a new bank account in America?

Here in Canada I have had as many as three diffirent bank accounts in three diffirent banks at the same time (one long term that I have had for decades, one was for a direct-to-account payroll where I openned the account in the same mall as work, and one to handle a Aunt's account) yet I had no problem openning an account in the Florida and because I have a debt VISA on that account I limit how much I put in it so no matter what they do all any scammer can get is the limited amount I keep in it.

With all the SC posts I see on this forum, exactly what is holding them back from openning an account in a diffirent bank with a limited amount of money in it?

                          This.

If you're not buying you're not a customer

Question, how had is it to make a new bank account in America?
All you need to do is go to a bank and open an account. And if you go to a credit union all you need to pay is 5 bucks to open an account with free checking.

most like the "i'm through with banks" comment was a lie. or someone who can't use their bank account due to being overdrawn perhaps?

My dh sells on ebay sometimes. He has a few hard and fast rules on all things he sells. A few years ago he had listing sell and sends the invoice. The guy responded that he doesn't use paypal and that he can send a money order. My dh politely declines and reminds him that the listing states that he only takes paypal. The guy responds that it is against Ebay policy to only take paypal and not money orders, and he would report him to ebay if he didn't accept his form of payment. My dh told him to go ahead and report it if he felt he needed to, but that he would take a payment by paypal only.

We worked out that about 1/3 of his listings, the buyers gave us problems.

I understand the some people ar leery about PayPal having access to their bank accounts. But that's no excuse for being rude. I didn't see a lot of your Dad's actual responses... did he tell the guy to take a hike or???????

                              More PayPal OT:

I don't think you even need to a have a bank account tied to your PayPal account. When I helped my wife set her PayPal account up, a bank account was required for the setup. But once the PP account was established, I immediately added her CC as a payment option and removed the bank account. (My own PP account was setup in the dark ages when you could set it up with a CC).
