I've seen the orginal swedish version, and read the book....

but now that they have danielcraig playing mikal....I'm hesitant to go see it. The swedish version was VERY dark, VERY disturbing, and VERY brutal.

I'm told the american version is water down.

    opinions?
It is by snark alone I set my mind in motion. It is by the juice of the coffee bean that thoughts acquire 'tude, the lips acquire mouthiness, the glares become a warning.

I've seen the first of the Swedish versions, we accidentally got it at Family Video not knowing it wasn't in English.

And yes, it was a very disturbing movie.

I am curious about it, though.

I mostly likely won't see it cause I'm usually not a fan of remakes, especially remakes of movies I liked (what? It was dark but awesome! :P ). If someone else rents it or pays for my ticket I might watch it. I still need to read the second and third books. I need to thank my mom for recommending them to me.

It's not as watered down as you would think. I was expecting it to be pretty well sanitized, and while the Swedish film is a bit darker, the new one is still pretty gritty. Grittier than I expected them to make it. I've seen all the Swedish films...reading the books now...and I enjoyed the American one.

Daniel Craig made a pretty good Blomkvist, imho. Noomi Rapace is still a better Salander, but Mara Rooney did a fair job.

I want to see it myself, but I tell you - since this is a Fincher remake, watering down is Not An OptionTM.

I agree with bhskittykat, Daniel Criag is a better Bloomkvist, Noomi Rapce a better Salander. I still liked the American version, though. Slightly watered down, still quite gritty.

I actually preferred the Swedish version - though the remake is a good job overall. I did not like the ending however. I think the changes were badly thought out. highlight for spoiler hiding out in England is dumb. You can get there in under 2 hours from Stockholm. What would stop a family member from deciding to hop over to visit and discover she is the wrong cousin ...

I haven't read the books. I am guessing they are worth reading?

hell yes. i will warn you, though, that about the first 100 or so pages of the first book drag a bit and i almost put it down. i'm so glad i didn't, though, because the payoff was amazing.

I've read "Dragon Tattoo" (haven't finished the trilogy yet) and seen both the Swedish and English versions. I'll agree with the consensus that Craig is a better Blomkvist, but Rapace is a better Salander.

One thought I had while seeing the English version, though, came during the opening credits.

"Wait... Daniel Craig... weird music video opening with women's bodies and strange imagery that nonetheless ties into the overall story... when did the Millennium trilogy become part of the Bond franchise?"
