  • First 3 days of spring semester

    The first Day:

It was a zoo. The renovated visitor parking garage opened that day. There are 3 levels inside the garage. Level one is for visitors only. Levels 2 & 3 are for university employees who have reserved parking. There is a card reader the entrance gate plus a card reader at the gate you get to before the 2nd level. Turns out the parking office Clerks, Nancy & Missy *not their real names*, entered the information into the system the parking office uses to manage the access cards & so on for many of the university employees who had reserved parking in that garage. The system the parking office uses is on the internet. So Andrea *not her real name*, the Director of Parking & Transportation Services, had to fix those problems. She did not use the computer at her office. She used the computer inside the visitor parking booth. She had to manually raise the gates for those employees to enter the garage. Then she had to correct the problem regarding how the information was entered. She was inside the visitor parking booth for a couple of hours. She even called the IT dept. for help because the computer inside the visitor parking booth was too slow, & the information she was looking at on the website was not displayed correctly. So 2 guys from the IT dept. came down to the booth. Plus 2 other university employees were assisting university employees with their access cards. There were times when those employees came to the booth to ask her questions. She is demeaning towards anyone she talks to. She acts like she is superior towards whoever she is speaking to. I could only stomach her for an hour. I wanted to slap her.

Then she made a mistake *gasp!*, which one of the IT dept. guys noticed. She was on the wrong screen while she was trying to fix the problem regarding the access cards and checking to see if they were working correctly. She kept on asking why the program was not working correctly.

There was a call box at the visitor parking entrance gate, but as of the first day of school spring semester, it is no longer there. Why...I do not know. There is a call box at the exit gate. Go figure.

Then visitor parking was reserved for the first 2 days, but it did not need to be because it did not get even close to being full. Student Activities sponsored the event. Andrea wanted visitor parking reserved the first 2 days. The parking office printed maps along with directions to get to the largest university student parking lot. Andrea wanted me to direct anyone who could not park in visitor parking to the student parking lots & to give them the map. So I did that. There were appreciative customers. And then there were customers who were not happy to get a map.

    The second day:

The problem still continued for the university employees, but most of the employees were able to gain access to the 2nd or 3rd level. I had to let one university employee into the garage using the access card I had. I told that employee to go to the parking office. The same thing regarding the map happened.

    The third day:

I had to let another university employee into the garage using the access card. I told her to go to the parking office.
