  • An incredibly wasteful policy..and a lack of stockers

A new policy at my store is that any items returned that are consumable or used on the body cannot be placed back on the shelves and are to be taken to salvage. Working in health and beauty care, this is pretty much everything in my area. This includes items that are still SEALED. For instance, if a customer returns a bottle of vitamins that is still unopened and sealed, we have to chuck it. Well today, I come in and find an overflowing bin of stuff behind guest services for me to take to salvage. Someone returned...30 bottles of shampoo. 30. And while none of them were used, I still was ordered to bring them to salvage. So I load everything in my cart and bring them back there. When I finally get back onto the floor, I enter the shampoo aisle to start straightening the shelves when I notice that the entire shelf of shampoo and conditioner that is on sale is empty. The bottles that I brought to salvage were the ones on sale. Instead of using them to stock the shelves, I had been made to toss them. So now everybody's coming up to me asking for the shampoo that's on sale. Grrr. One person buying 30 bottles of shampoo is just wrong anyway. No wonder the damn shelves were bare. How about setting some limits??

It really pisses me off that we don't have people stocking on the floor in my area during the day anymore. They expect me to straighten all the aisles and stock everything that's on sale. And when I come in, everything that's on sale is gone. I don't have time to play frickin' stocker when I've got an entire area to clean (which takes my entire shift to complete). God, it burns me up. I get so sick of coming in and the first thing I hear is "do you have any more of the buy one get one deordorant?" and then another person comes up at the same time "do you have more of the 10 for 10 toothpaste in the back?" ARRGH!

I can understand the policy on returns of HBA products. If it's something that touches the body, they probably don't want to take the risk of reshelving it and then having somebody else buy it and catch somebody else's skin disorder.

Even if the product is resealed. It probably wouldn't take much to make sure it still is, but the store doesn't want to take the time.

30 bottles? Perhaps an extreme-couponer had buyer's remorse when they got home. Or died from an avalanche of shampoo, conditioner, body wash, soap, laundry detergent, and shaving cream that they were hoarding in their spare bedroom.

Sucks they throw stuff out like that but I can understand why it's the rule to do so. It's very easy to tamper with those products. Easy to add a chemical or switch out pills for others. It can be dangerous.

Doubt an extreme-couponer would have buyers remorse. If it was one, that means it was dirt cheap or free in order to buy 30. And most extreme-couponers (I'm a mild-couponer lol) would have just donated the excess they don't need for themselves. I've never returned an item I used a coupon on so far. Then again, I've only been at it for less than a year XD.

I wonder if someone put them in the wrong bin?

If the shelves were empty, it makes we wonder
            1. Did someone steal them and return them?
            2. Does someone know about the policy and decided to F with your store.

They weren't in the wrong bin, the lady at the service desk told me exactly what happened, and she checked to mak sure we couldn't put them back on the shelves.
