  • Wherein I get to become a morning person again

Not that I really *like* being a morning person...but we just had shift bids at work (meaning they had to rearrange everyone's shifts so they ranked us according to performance metrics and then offered us various shifts) and I chose one where the latest I'll be showing up for work is 9:15 AM. Still, I only have to work 4 hours on Saturdays (mostly morning) and then I have Sunday and Monday off. I'm happy with that...I was worried I'd get stuck with something really crappy!

Now, to work on my going to bed early skills...

I do not have those skills. It's 1:00 am and I'm still up.

The "Staying Awake Till 1:30 PM" skill is likely to be needed also...

I'm about to move to a new place that requires an hour + bus ride. Morning shifts start at 6:45am.
          In other words. I understand.

I'm not an early morning person, but I can pretend to be one if I get paid enough.

Like my nephew who won a saxophone worth several thousand dollars by being the last one still awake.

Yeah, I know some people have it a lot worse (if they're not into getting up in the middle of the night, at least). Like my friend who works an opening shift at a McDonald's...

There is not enough money in the universe to make me a morning person.
                  I'm bringing disdain back...with a vengeance.

Well, just to be clear, I will be a morning person only because of my work schedule, not really by personal preference. It is better for me and my life to have a more regular work schedule so I can do more with my husband and friends on weekends and in the evenings. I will not be jumping out of bed eager to start another day, that's for sure!!

I have to relearn how to be a morning person for the next 4 to 5 months. I'm already looking forward to nights, even if it will mess with my social life.

                        Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggghhhh

Well, my happiness at my new schedule didn't last long. I really should still be happy because most of it was what I asked for...sort of. But they finally put up our new schedules today...and instead of having Monday off like I thought I agreed to, I am scheduled for Thursdays and Sundays off still. Also I go to work 15 minutes earlier during the week, at 9 AM instead of 9:15...which isn't so bad but it's just that much less time I might have extra in the mornings to get something done before work if I had to. I'm most upset about the day off not being Monday...was really looking forward to having 2.5 days off in a row.

I am still going to talk to the supervisor who called me last week to set this all up, and see if he remembers me agreeing to something different...he wasn't in today. But somehow I don't think it will do any good...they'd have to make a lot of changes at this point to switch my day off. I hope I never have to do a shift bid over the phone ever again...either that or I really need a different job where the hours are pretty much the same all the time. Oh, and I am trying to find the silver lining in all this...such as, I won't have to move all the appointments I've made for Thursdays (though I do have to move one I made last week for an upcoming Monday), and I'm still going to be working earlier so I will get out earlier...etc.
