  • Dog REM... with open eyes? - Freaky!

I so wish I had a video of this but I figured if I got up to get the camera it would have woken her up completely

I was cuddling with the BF and the dog on the couch/giant dog bed last night and chuckled when the Dublin started twitching, realizing she was dreaming. I petted her gently and her eyes opened... but she continued to twitch.

That's when I realized she was STILL ASLEEP. Deep in REM sleep with her eyes OPEN, her nose and paws still twitching too.

    Freaky, yet funny too.

Pepper, dogs can be so funny sometimes. My big dog "chases rabbits in his sleep". I swear, he's been an old dog since he was a puppy. He never played fetch, with balls, or any toy really. He did pack around a stuffed dog toy when he was very tiny but once he started maturing a little, he quickly lost interest. Because of his hips and knees, he's been old physically as well. To see him dream, though, is absolutely hilarious. I just know he's carrying out his life long dream of running through the meadows, chasing rabbits! He'll lay on his side, and all 4 legs will be in the running motion, only he's still laying down. Several times, he's woken me in the middle of the night doing this and has a slight bark/yip noise when he's "running". Once, I got so tickled. He was going through all this and suddenly jumped up and looked around--he'd barked in his sleep and woke himself up!

People do it, too. Once I dreamed I was yelling at my mom, and I was yelling in my sleep, and woke myself and the house up.
"Is it hot in here to you? It's very warm, isn't it?"--Nero, probably
