  • Wendy's to re-interview staff, keep only "5 star" employees

    http://consumerist.com/2012/02/wendy...employees.html

I wonder if the Bobs will be conducting the interviews?

Seriously though, while I understand the concept behind this, it seems like they are looking for a quality of staff that would be nearly impossible to retain in the fast food business. I mean really, how many "5 star" employees out there are happy to work for minimum wage or something not far from it?

How would you react if your company did this?

I think it's good. And I'm sure their "5 star" won't be as high leveled as other businesses.

I was just at Wendy's last night (it's a special treat for us since the nearest one is 40 minutes away). Anyway, we were a group and all ordered food. We forgot to order sauce so I went up alone to ask for 4 honey mustards. The guy told me I was only allowed two because they're not for fries o_o. Even when I said it was for the table, he said I don't care, you didn't order nuggets and they're not for fries. I thanked him for making up the rule on the spot and took the 2 sauces which we split amongst all of us. So stupid. First time that has ever happened. Even the guy behind me was all "wtf?".

We were all going to order a frosty each for the road and decided not to.

I rather hope they'll put this policy in place at the Wendy's I frequent. I've given up on trying to ever get a sandwich without tomatoes. Once upon a time, I was even dumb enough to try to request a sandwich not only without tomatoes, but with onions added on special. Then I saw the light and gave up on that, then they finally broke me and I gave up asking for it without tomatoes. No matter how many times you go, no matter how many times you order, you will never, ever, ever get your order made correctly.

Now I'm just happy that a few of the workers recognize me and know which sides I want with my incorrect sandwich. I consider that a victory.

This could be good. The employees at the Wendys in my city aren't the nicest people in the world.

Then again, it depends on what they mean by "five star." They could just keep the same people they have now, or they could just be a revolving door because the truly excellent employees probably won't be staying there long.

There's a few Wendy's around me that will have to shut down if they do that. The one closest to my work is so bad I simply refuse to go near it anymore and will drive to one that's further away for lunch.

I like to think that MAYBE the "five star" employees will get a better wage.

              Yeah, I know.

I wish more places would understand that to KEEP quality employees, they have to pay what they're worth.

Hell, I was employee of the month at work in Dec. (started in Oct.), and I don't know if/when I'll get a raise.

Once, when on a low-carb diet, I ordered a cheeseburger at Wendy's, plain, no bun. I guess "plain" means "no cheese either"...

                      This.

When I worked at a Call Center, the pay and benefits (and hours as a matter of fact) were decent but for the most part I got zero respect from my managers and supervisors and little more than that from the customers.

It could be a good thing they're doing that for making room for the good employees (not just the cashiers and cooks).

Didn't Circuit City 're-interview' all of their employees at one point? We saw how well THAT turned out.

I could be thinking of another company, though.

Also, I love my Wendy's! The emps are all so sweet and efficient in there. I don't think any of them would have problems being considered '5 star'.

The Wendy's here in my town could use a little "employee upgrading",

                            BUT

it's the franchise owner that worries me. The managers used to be idiots (not sure about now). My daughter worked for one briefly years ago and the things that went on in her store were, at the very least, a little shocking

The biggest thing/"opppsssie" happened on Labor Day. it had been moderately raining that day and for some reason all of the stores floor drains had backed up after it stopped raining. As in there was some water in the dinning room, water coming out of the restrooms and the BIGGEST one was 2 inches of water in the back cooking/prep area.

we all should know what kind of equipment is in a restaurant back room. machines, fryers and all kinds of electronics stuff. what pissed me off was the store was STILL OPEN and no plumber was even being considered being called.

First of all this is a HEALTH hazard to a customer

second of all there is an extream hazard to the employees working around said equipment.
I'm lost without a paddle and headed up SH*T creek.

No, they fired the top earners and told them they could reapply for entry level pay.
