  • Nancy's complaints

These 2 complaint's came from Nancy *not her real name*, a Parking office clerk at the university where I & my co-worker work as contract Visitor Parking attendants.

    First complaint:

The visitor parking garage has 3 levels. Level one is for visitors. Levels 2 & 3 are for university employees having reserved parking in that garage. Nancy parks on one of those levels. I work inside a booth. There is a gate next to the booth & a gate across from the booth. The gate next to the booth is for visitors. The gate across from the booth is for university employees having reserved parking on levels 2 & 3. A guy driving a pickup truck pulls up to the booth window. He tells me he is here to take a test. I had to reserve some spots inside visitor parking for guests arriving at the university. This information is posted by the parking office staff on the outlook calendar. Since I did not know how many open spots were inside visitor parking, I told him I would have to check & that I would return soon. I went outside to check visitor parking. Here is the setup of visitor parking...

there is a freeway across the street from the garage
there is a road to the left of the garage that leads to another freeway

There was contstruction going on one of those freeways, & so city police were diverting people to another route. I could hear cars honking, city police talking to the drivers & the sound of traffic when I was outside.

I went inside the garage to see if there was a spot for the guy to park in. There was. I told the guy when I got back into the booth that there was a spot. There is a control box with 2 buttons on it that control the gate arms at the booth. I raise the gate for the guy to enter the garage. When I did that, I also notice a red car at the outside gate. So I press the button for the gate arm to raise.

Turns out that was Nancy waiting at the gate. She calls me from her cell phone. Here is what happened.

Nancy: "Snugglegirl05 where did you go to?"
me: "I was inside the garage counting spots to make sure I had one for a customer to park in"
    Nancy: "You were counting spots?"
me: "Yes, I was counting spots"
Nancy: "Well...I saw you leave the booth & go inside the garage. You came back to the booth & let that pickup truck into the garage."
me: "Yes, I had to make sure that there was a spot for the person to park in."
Nancy: "I was waiting at the outside gate, but you did not let me into the garage before you left. I saw you leave, but you did not let me in."
me: "The pickup truck was blocking my view, & so I could see any cars at the outside gate."
Nancy: "I hollered at you to let me in when you walked outside, but you did not hear me, & I was still waiting at the gate."
me: "I'm sorry, but I did not hear you."
Nancy: "OMG you did not hear me?!! Ok fine."
    She hangs up.

    Second complaint:

The President's office was having a meeting. This information was posted on the outlook calendar. This happened after my co-worker clocked in & while I was about to leave. A male guest arrived to park for that meeting. My co-worker pointed to the visitor parking garage, & told him to park in that garage. He raised the gate for him to enter, but instead of enterng that garage, he drove up to the faculty/staff garage, which is adjacent to the visitor parking garage. The phone inside the booth rings. It is Nancy on the phone. My co-worker told me what happened after he dealt with the customer. Nancy wanted to know why he sent the President's office guest to the faculty/staff garage to park. The guest pressed the call button on the call box at the entrance gate to the faculty/staff garage. The call was transferred to the parking office. Nancy answered the phone. She was pissed off that he was waiting at the entrance gate to that garage. So she asked my co-worker why he sent that guest to that garage. My co-worker told her that he directed him to the visitor parking garage, but when he raised the gate for him to enter the garage, he turned to the left instead of going straight. He had to use the access card we were given to let the guest into the faculty/staff garage & out of that garage.

Doesn't Nancy have anything better to do?
Customers should always be served . . . to the nearest great white.
