  • Y'all Gotta Talk To The WHITE PEOPLE!

So, I'm on exterior patrol when I see a 'Gentleman' standing outside Entrance 'A'. Entrance A opens into the busiest part of the mall and is used the most, and as such has non-smoking signs posted every 10 feet or so for 50 feet on either side of the doors. Otherwise, people gather under the awning and smoke drifts all the way into the mall; the smokers also block the doors. It was overcast that day, but not raining at the moment.

I stopped and said "Excuse me sir, could you move about 50 feet to 'that' side or 'that' side? This is actually a non-smoking area and..."

He started yelling "Hey, there's cigarette butts ALL OVER the ground here! How did I know I couldn't smoke here?!"

I said "Well, there's a sign right 'there' and that's also why I stop and tell people."

    And then he said this:

"Well, y'all better talk to the WHITE PEOPLE then, cause I see them standing out here smoking all the time and you never stop THEM!"

Ok, that pissed me off. I said "Sir, I am ONE PERSON patrolling this entire mall and stop as many people as I can!"

He moved to an acceptable location, but as I left he continued yelling after me about how we NEVER talk to the white people!

Oh, and there were maybe 3 butts on the ground where he was standing. I made a point of sweeping them up afterward where he could see me, and calling cleaning to check all the other entrances.

But REALLY! I ask you to move and that makes me racist!? I told my boss she might get a complaint about me, just in case. In all honesty, the majority of the people I catch smoking outside are white (and employees, who know better and usually rush to an acceptable spot as soon as the see me coming!) , not that it matters, and I speak to every single person the same. If this guy comes to the mall regularly enough to see who smokes outside that door, I'm betting I'll run into him again; won't that be fun!

Being accused of racism makes me feel like shit.

Unless he's correct in that accusation, it shouldn't. Why do you care what he pretends to think? I say "pretends" because he knows he's full of shit. He's just trying to make you feel embarrassed. He knows that you will have a knee jerk reaction being called that, because most people do. It's a way to get under your skin and he knows that. But again, why do you care what he thinks? Even if he really does think that it shouldn't matter to you, because HE shouldn't matter to you.

Don't give an asshole that much power over you.

I don't think I could put it any better than this. Don't worry, guy's just trying to get a reaction outta you.

Which is why the race card gets played so often. It puts people on the defensive. It makes them feel bad about themselves, like they shouldn't have said anything to the person playing it.

It would be the highlight of my life to see somebody, upon being falsely accused of racism, just laugh in the face of the accuser.

Wish you could be around when I get accused of it then. I start laughing and laughing, and when/if I finally am able to stop and answer their insistent demands to be told why I think that's funny, I start with, "well let's see, there are my 2 half-black sisters, my half black nephew, my chinese aunt and cousins, my hispanic uncle and cousins..." By then they are usually stomping away.

^ I could actually cite my own heritage. I look totally caucasian, but I am of 2 races.

This pisses me off no end. There used to be a guy at my school who would frequently get detentions:

Leroy: "Aw man, you is racist, you're only giving me detention 'cos I am black!"
Teacher: "No, I am giving you a detention because you haven't done your homework"
There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet.

I had a seasonal cashier try to accuse me of being racist (long story). However, since both the HR manager and my supervisor knew me it wasn't taken seriously. But it did make me feel bad. Tried to talk to her and ask her why she felt that way but she would ignore me. They let her go not long after Christmas. I told my daughter that on Christmas when she called and her comment was, "Didn't you show them a picture of your son-in-law?" She and her husband have been married over 10 yrs. He's black. I said well since I hadn't really had an opportunity to exchange more than 2 words with this woman and don't happen to carry a bunch of pictures around with me, no.

                      This.

The REAL problem is that some individuals CANNOT stand being told what to do, or being wrong. They will find ANY reason to blame you, or invent a reason if there is none.

It used to be awesome when both me and the husband worked at Kinko's. Someone would start in with the race card, I'd just tap my wedding ring with my pen then jerk my thumb at my husband sitting behind the counter in Desktop Publishing.

For those of you who don't know, during that time period he looked exactly like Slash. Although in the summer, he was considerably swarthier.

I didn't usually have to say anything more than that.

Yes the Race card. I have lost count how many times it's been used on me at the library I do security at. It usually doesn't bother me as it's usually just a drunk homeless person saying it but a few weeks ago I got really annoyed over this young aboriginal guy who used it on me. He was sitting on the floor of this skywalk system that runs threw our building charging his cellphone. He had been sitting there for over 1hr 1/2 so I walked up to him and asked him to not sit on the floor and that there was plenty of chairs and plugs inside the library he could use. All of sudden he starts saying "why should I get up, this is our land and you white people stole it from us!" Told him that he still can't sit on the floor and to go inside the library. He then gets up and start's heading down the stairs to inside the library swearing and calling me Racist. So I tell him he could leave for the day and he then go "why?" I say Because you called me an "f-ing Racist" he then goes "I didn't say f-ing racist, I just called you racist". Man that really anoyed me because all I was doing was asking him politely to go inside the library where there was plenty of comfortable chairs and was a bit better than a dirty floor.
