  • The Anti-F**k You Mother Nature Thread

OK OK OK I conceed defeat. Winter was a whimper this year here in the land of Green and Gold.

I took down the outside Xmas decorations back the FIRST week in Jan.

I actually worked/delivered on Sat. night without a jacket of any sort.

    Today I:
    washed my car
    cleaned up the back yard
pulled out the outside hose and turned on the outside water valve
considered putting out the outside connection to the sump pump
and BBQ'ed some delicisious brats and steaks

    next weekend (MAYBE)
I am going to clean out the gutters
    Fix one of the downspouts
Maybe put out my potted roses to get some sun
kill off a large patch of weeds and plant new grass seed
lay down some gravel in a walkway on the side of the house
put out the snakey downpipe for one of the gutters
Cook MORE delicious brats and burgers

note: I still have slush ballsl waiting for certain members
I'm lost without a paddle and headed up SH*T creek.

Couldn't you have called it the "Love you Mother...." thread? Anyway, I think that last snow "storm" was the last of the season. I've been spring-cleaning for a week.

Heck, I was still gardening in January here! Thank you winter, you'll allow me to enjoy my summer more now that I don't have all that edging, weeding, trimming and digging to do!

I still live on a tropical island.
I still ride my bicycle to work in shorts and a t-shirt.
I still see hot chicks in bikinis walking past and into my bar every day.
I still have a balcony overlooking my pool complex's pool, which never closes for the season.
I still get to drink cold beer at many open air, outside bars.
I still either roll my windows down in my truck or turn on the AC when I'm driving--and still haven't used the heater yet this winter, in either my truck or my apartment.
I still am looking at temps in the high seventies. In March.

And yes...I still gloat. Bring on the slush balls! (They'd be very cool and refreshing.)

I better do a hell of a lot of pushups and arm workouts this week, if I'm going to wear a tanktop this weekend when it's 70 degrees!!!!!!!

Slight boo for the rain/storm chances on my days off, but if it's going to be that warm, I will take whatever I can get!

But Jester, isn't the price you have to pay for the imbalance of having no winter the tragic magic of the hurricane?

Hurricanes often threaten Key West, but rarely do they actually hit the island.

Honestly, hurricanes do more damage economically to KW from the forced tourist evacuations than they do physical damage, most of the time.

Outside of Hurricane Georges in 1998 (just after my first visit to Key West) and Hurricane Wilma in 2005, we have not had major hurricane problems in KW in a while. The geography of the region shunts a lot of hurricanes away from or around Key West and the Lower Keys.

Are we hurricane-proof? No, of course not. But do we deal with the "tragic magic" of hurricanes? Not all that much, honestly. Since the very busy season of 2005 (Dennis, Katrina, Rita, and Wilma), there's been very little activity, with very little even in the way of scares.

(For those wondering about Katrina not being that serious, remember, it was a very minor storm (Category 1) when it passed over the Florida mainland and the Keys, before hitting the Gulf of Mexico and strengthening into the monster storm that devastated New Orleans.)

So, no, that's not really the price I pay. I do pay a price for living here, in other ways, but the hurricane thing is more a tax than a fee, as it were.

It was upper 70s Friday, hit 80 yesterday, and will probably be 80 again today.

Can I say, it was great to finally get some color without a tanning bed for once?

Looks like we'll stay pretty mild for a few more days, but....ewww 49 next weekend? Gee, great.

At least with a week straight of 70s and a few 80s, I'm sure the ground warmed up pretty nicely.

Yeah, that's what I hate about the false-spring weather up here Blas. You get used to it, and then even plus-forties seems cool. Keep the faith though, just a few more months 'til Real Spring.

49 I can handle. HELL even into the low 40's I can handle theat still means I do not have to wear a jacket while delivering

but then that has been most the 'winter' here in Cheeseheadland anyway.

Got a LOT of outside stuff done this weekend. my plants are starting to grow (still have the cones ready just in case) my roses are growing (gave them a good long drink of water and put them outside today) and I just may give my doggie an outside bath this week.

I don't want it to get or stay too much hotter than it has been, because this place is naturally an oven inside, and no one really wants to help me put in my AC unit for only a month or two before I move

If I could leave my windows open all the time, it'd be no big deal, but I can't.
