  • The hypnoboobs effect

As per the other thread on this topic, I went off for the session last night. I've listened to the relaxation CD a fair number of times, sometimes falling asleep, sometimes dozing.

The first hour was going through what I eat and why in order to tailor the actual session. Lots of nutritional advice that we agreed upon as mostly being what I already knew, but just wasn't doing. The main issue is that I eat because I'm bored, depressed, happy ... I just damn well like eating. Have a large meal, go out shopping, have a sandwich on top sort of thing.

The session itself involved me sitting in a very comfortable chair from Ikea (I asked - I intend going there in the near future and sitting on all the things). I did what I was told and relaxed loads while I was told stuff in a very firm and clear voice. I could have moved at any time. I ... just didn't want to.

I hadn't eaten that much yesterday. This was sort of deliberate. I wasn't feeling overly hungry for the most part, which is a bit of a deliberate act to be able to compare all this. After the session, I went off with a mate to the cinema.

Usually during a film I'll be thinking about popcorn (I'm capable of putting huge amounts away) didn't really notice that. I usually plan a meal or two ahead constantly. Far less, though I did think about some soup I was planning on having when I got back two or three times.

In short, the whole connection between thinking about food and acting on it is far weaker than it was.

Two or three more sessions to go. Will keep you updated.

Oh, I dusted off the Wii Fit and it reckons just over 19 stones (14 pounds to a stone). Going to go back to keeping track on that.

Congratulations on a great start! You can do this! I'm learning slowly that I love to eat and really enjoy great comfort food. I'm also learning that my body doesn't require anywhere near the amount of calories my mouth likes to enjoy. Since the first of December, I've been making a concious effort to reduce the caloric intake and have lost 10-15 pounds. Now that it's starting to warm a bit here, the added exercise every afternoon will add more positive reinforcement to my endeavor.

Don't ever think of this as "dieting". If you do, you'll eventually give up. Think of it as healthy living. You can still enjoy many of the foods you like, even cakes and pies, but learning moderation and adjusting your daily caloric intake takes will power and it seems you are on the right foot for that. I still have a dessert here and there, but I no longer go overboard. I'm the kind of gal that can sit and eat an entire cake or pie in one sitting, especially if my eating is related to my current emotion. I'm finding other outlets for that, too.

Again, YOU CAN DO IT! YOU ARE DOING IT! Keep up the good work.

        Good luck!

Out of curiosity, was it the poang chair? This is the chair that just about everyone I know owns and loves :P

Very much looks like the chair in question. My furry bum will be making a bee line to that when I make a visit.

One of the things said was that it's not a diet. I have a target weight in mind, but it's just eating when I need to and not when I don't need to, and that should shift it.

Interesting effect. The whole instinct for me to think about food and then go eat being broken was working pretty well, even when taking orders in the office for food. However, I went into the warehouse to load trucks at the end of the day.

Salivating like a sodding pitbull is not a good look.

I held back and was good. I think I'm over it now. However, I'll be asking about reinforcing that sort of thing. It's all about the mental attitude for this. Didn't eat that much when it was time for a meal and was far better after. I was sated with a small amount. This is a good thing.

Have been restrained on food today, and since the main midday meal at about 12:30 I've had an apple and a rice cake with some peanut butter on. Not sure I actually needed those.

Still salivating from time to time - the whole purpose of this is to stop reacting to food as entertainment within arms reach. Maybe with the next session.

Mostly charting things for the record right now.

Headed for bed at about 9.30 last night - was dog tired. Figured my body had to adjust to the different energy levels, so I wasn't too concerned. That was until I woke up and couldn't get back to sleep. Got up eventually at 4am and made some pixels sorry that they ever existed until I was tired enough to sleep. This was about the point I needed to look at getting ready for work. Had my porridge etc and some chemicals for a very persistant headache. May be sinus related, but also could be caffeine deprivation as I've reduced intake of that quite substantially.

So far, I was up at four am and I've had a bowl of porridge and a couple of rice cakes by 11am. I'm working on a large order and we sell food - so far, I'm not thinking too much in terms of habitually eating and the like, so it seems to be working.

Definitely sounds like caffeine deprivation, when my husband cut out his sodas, he had the same symptoms.

Good to hear its working, though!

Started weighing myself on the Wii Fit on Tuesday morning. Five pounds down so far, though the first week always loses most. Getting the odd craving here or there, able to fight it off or have an orange or an apple or something. Hitting the water heavily still, getting a bit of effort on the crosstrainer here or there. Headache almost certainly down to sinuses, I think.

Have tipped out a nearly full two litre bottle of diet coke - body tastes sweetness, body expects it, gives some cravings for sugar.

Anyway, about to live the dream by putting some laundry out and then try and get the mental energy to get on the crosstrainer.

So far, so good. Still salivating heavily from time to time.

I have a hypnotherapy certification (don't use it professionally though) we had to practice on each other, volunteer to be the "demo" in class and work on who ever we could get to volunteer to get the hours in.
I did notice that with some styles of therapy I would get restless in the middle of the night a few nights later. Parts therapy was the worst for restlessness (for me)- but it doesn't sound like you are doing that type. Are you doing positive suggestion therapy? I would get restless nights after that too, but not as bad. Regression and phobia therapy - slept like a baby. I would mention it in your next session.
As for the salivation - talk to them about maybe giving you something to replace it with when you feel it coming on* - like touching your thumb and finger together. For some people that works wonders. Or do what I call "a mini safe place vacation" - go to your "safe place" that you use for hypno and "visit" it for a brief time until the feeling goes away. I practically live in my "safe place" during turbulant flights - any guess who volunteered to demo the phobia therapy?
ETA *actually, talk to them I think I kinda oversteped my bounds by giving suggestions here - your therapist is the one who would give much better suggestions designed for you.

Not too concered about suggestions. Feel free to give them.

Anyway, the hypnoboob diet so far has just reach a first week weight loss of six pounds. That's not bad considering I've rarely been hungry.

The suggestion stuff I'm doing is to mainly break the link between boredom/happiness/sadness etc and eating. I ... really like eating. Not sure what part you'd call that.

                            Raps,
I enjoy food a lot, myself. When someone tells me about a travel or adventure they have, one of the first things I'll think of is "What kind of food was there? Oh, you were in St. Louis, how were the ribs? Oh gosh, Germany - did you get some traditional food?"
I like to eat. Plain old enjoy it.
But I am also sitting at a computer for a few hours on end, and have some nuts or chips or other finger food right next to me, so I eat without thinking about it. Which results in weight gain/water/other stuff. Pointless intake, honestly. Along side of that, I'm also seeing a BIG issue in myself with blood sugar. If I don't eat every 3 or so hours, I get really wobbly and if I wait longer than that I go postal. (really!). So I now have to be VERY conscious of the food I eat AND WHEN I eat it.

Are you making sure your protein intake is ok for the day, or is this here a behavior mod - from boredom eating to conscious eating? Is this the first step of food change?
Whichever way, keep going I'm about 13 stones myself but am working on it.
In my heart, in my soul, I'm a woman for rock & roll.
She's as fast as slugs on barbituates.

Heh - I'm aiming at getting down to 14 stones. Protein - oh, that's taken care of, I can assure you. I often get tofu free at work when it gets close to date. It's more along the conscious moderation of my eating intake, not eating when I'm not hungry type thing. I'm also fond of chicken in reasonable proportion, and there's often beans on at work. Also, cashews. A few of them here or there help a stir fry.
