  • Nice try - NOT!

This woman comes into the store every now and then. She's easy to recognize, but she thinks (as far as I can see) that we are incapable of knowing who she is every time she walks in the door.

Last time she came in when I was here, she told me that the owner told her she could get anything for half-price. They made an agreement. I told her I'd check with the owner. She left without buying anything.

She was in the store today. She brought up an item that was on sale. Okay, fine.

Then she brought up another item. Oh, wow! Look at that! There's NO TAG! Gee! That's never happened before, especially with this particular woman! No! We never experience a tagless item when she's in the store! Of course not!

Look, you stupid bitch, trying it once is pushing it. Trying it more than once, in a small store where we all talk to each other, is really fucking stupid.

So, when she tried it again, I gave her a look of extreme disapproval, but I didn't say anything, because I can't prove it, and because I'm not one of the owners.

However, I could, and did, quote her a very high price for the item. She promptly lost all interest in buying it.

The owners are going to hear about this one.

No price tag means free right?
Every time a sc made a joke about a non scanning item having to be free made me gag.
Working at the mart of S we had a few individuals that would try taking tags off clearance items and putting them on other things.

Is it worth getting a CCTV still printed & stuck up behind the register, just as a kind of hint that she's known?

I doubt it. If she thinks she can just waltz up and claim that the owner told her she could get anything she wanted for half the regular price, she's not one to be put off by something like that. I think she believes that regular rules don't apply to her.

After the infamous "half-off"incident, I asked the owner if he'd made any such agreement with her. He had no idea what she was talking about.

          Everything half price? How?

The mother of my last boss could not get such a deal (she paid the store cost only), but who get half price for everything?

LMAO I bet she did. That was a brilliant move.

A local thrift shop has placed signs all over the place stating that if the item does not have a tag it cannot be sold and will be put in the back for processing and place back on the floor another day. I am sure it doesn't stop the scammers from trying but it gives the clerks the power to refuse the sale.

                .
I'm not saying the person in question isn't an SC and a scammer - sure sounds like one to me. But please have a little mercy on others who make that lame joke. My hubby says it now and then, usually when an item having no tag means a price check or something, & we're all just standing awkwardly waiting - it's kind of his idea of small talk. I doubt it's ever occurred to him how often the cashiers hear it, or that it would annoy them. He means well, honest.

Yeah, we have one of those too. I totally understand why they do it, and don't blame them in the least. It would just be nice if it didn't seem like everytime I find just one thing I really want, there's no tag

Well, as it turns out, the owner DID tell her once that her purchases would be half-off; he had hardly sold anything all day, and he was getting desperate. It was only for that day, however, and not for every time she entered the store.

He loved it when I told him I'd quoted her a high price for the item.

*Looks at lady's item that's mysteriously missing a tag* "Oh, is that missing a tag? Goodness, I recall it happened the last time you were here too!" *Smiles sweetly* "Sorry about that. Not to worry, I can sell this for *high price*."
