  • OPSEC FAIL in the news

    http://usnews.msnbc.msn.com/_news/20...-wal-mart?lite

The man was buying mulch and brushed a stick away from it. The stick turned out to be a rattle snake.

The OPSEC FAIL part was that they listed his first & last name, the city it happened in, and that he was buying mulch for his licensed marijuana plants.

Seriously? He's growing licensed pot and they just gave everyone enough data to obtain his home address.

please no debates on whether or not he should have a license... this is just about being careful when handling other people's personal data. They should have never posted his name period, cos they basically made his home a target. I'm betting that he's going to have a break in within the year.

When I was in college, the local news paper ran a story about a car theft. They gave the name and address of the victim, and that the Corvette had been stolen from "where he parked it below his kitchen window", THREE TIMES BEFORE!

Does anyone want to know where to steal a Corvette?

My state has a very broad public records act. You can find out so much about someone just from their full name or address.

Hell you don't even need to go that far.

I found the man's home address in under a minute on zabasearch

But I wonder why did he mentioned what he was buying the mulch for?
If he had just said he was buying mulch and got bit the media would not have known what he was using it for. People buy mulch all of the time, for gardening and potted plants, he could have just said it is for my plants, why did he mention marijuana?

Other than the snake bite, I have little sympathy for whatever consequences come due to what he gave the media.

Was there a UPC sticker on the snake?
