So, earlier this week we had our big Employee Appreciation Day BBQ. Which meant we had employees and their families out on our pool deck and in our break room where we had food set-up. Hubby was cooking. I was off that day, and came in my shorts and flip-flops. I was in and out of the break-room setting up food and getting prizes for contests and getting cards and t-shirts and such.
At one point, CW who was on duty called me to the front desk. I reminded her I was off-duty and technically couldn't be in the front-office area. She had a quick question about a credit card authorization, which I answered. Basically, a guest had a credit card that wasn't hers, and a photocopy of the ID and a note from the cardholder. We can't accept that; we need a specific 3rd party CC auth form filled out for that. I then went back to throwing the party.
Well, apparently I should be disciplined now for not helping CW when I was off the clock (even though I did help answer CW's question...it just wasn't the answer SC wanted!). And employees should never, ever be thrown parties because it's "unprofessional". And she found rat feces in the room and checked out immediately and are reporting us to the health department (which I find suspect, as no other guests have reported feces and our traps are always empty, and given the amounts she was complaining about, I think someone besides them would notice if an actual problem existed).
I just responded with a general apology and noted that there was a special employee party going on with off-duty employees, and that we do not require our employees to work off the clock.
