  • Post-vacation reflections and pictures

I'm back home from vacation. Got home just before 1 in the morning. Got an added bonus--my manager called and told me not to come in to work Friday because the truck for Friday morning was really small.

Weather kind of sucked, as you may have gathered from my earlier posts, but this meant I got to see Yellowstone in winter and I saw much much more wildlife than I ever did there before.

    So here's some pics:

Yellowstone National Park Sign and a Japanese Tourist

(I really don't want to be Mr. Ugly American here, but there were a lot of Japanese in the park, and they annoyed the living shit out of me. Apparently it is not enough for them to just take pictures of the wildlife and scenery. They HAVE to be in all the pictures, and they will hold up traffic and butt in front of other people to do this. I mean, I saw them posing for pictures in the middle of crowded boardwalks in geyser basins, holding up people trying to walk on through.

Interesting but not sucky about the Japanese tourists--they all had huge-ass cameras with huge-ass zoom lenses. I found that interesting, considering we are talking about people who built a bustling economy making electronic things smaller.)

A grizzly bear's bare ass (I think this is Grand Teton National Park)

    Stupiddle Stupidity.

What those two idiots were gawking at
(Yes, those are baby buffalo. Yes, the one is completely in midair. They were feeling frisky this day.)

The buffalo stampede we ended up stuck behind for an hour and a half.

Moar stupid people doing stupid things near large, tramply, stabby animals.

    These buses are so neat.

Black bear makes an appearance, does not steal any pick-a-nic baskets.

Wile. E. Coyote drops by, on its way to its den full of quality Acme products.

The town of West Yellowstone, Montana.

(Note: Bullwinkle's Bar, in the second photo, is a Green Bay Packers bar. Yes, they follow the green and gold out there. When's the last time you saw a Cincinnati Bengals bar?

I almost got a good shot of this pool until these two tourists set up shop right in front of me.

On the way back, we stopped at a rest stop in Utah and saw hummingbirds.

        Same here.

And I'll second the awesome pics assessment (and the frustration at people who manage to get in the way of all the good shots).

Love the pics! They are bee-yoo-tee-ful. Yay bears! And baby buffalo! And not so much for the silly people...oh, well.

We once saw a Japanese family in town, obviously visiting...every single one had a camera hanging around his or her neck, including the baby in the stroller!

Sometimes the best vacations are in the worst weather, often less people to deal with. Some people can't get past wanting it all "perfect", so often those of us who can manage without perfection have the best vacations cause they aren't there.

I think maybe that coming from a small crowded island, the Japanese are less used to personal space than we are, and they don't expect to get photos without people in them, so it just doesn't occur to them we'd like them to move the heck over so we can take our own photos without them in them, LOL.

Baby buffalo - awwww. They frolic like lambs. There were a herd of buffalo that lived on a base I lived by once, but I can't recall any babies (well, come to thnk of it, we were there six months in winter, so there wouldn't have been).

The buffalo stampede looks familiar - change it to cows or sheep, and it makes me think of a typical trip in Wales. About the only "rush hour" we had.

Black bear - was Boo Boo nearby? You know, though, if you look at that picture just right, it looks like he has a horn - maybe you have a photo of the rare black unicorn? It could sell for millions to a cryptozoologist.......or maybe a tabloid..

I agree with the others, Wile E. looks more like a wolf to me - then again, since I'm not even sure what exactly the difference is, I wouldn't take my opinion to seriously (go on, say it - "no one ever does anyway" )

Love the hummingbirds, you almost never see a photo unless it's just a blur as they fly around. Maybe the cold slowed them down?

Looks like you had a fun trip, lots of good memories. Sigh, I want to take a vacation.....

            Madness takes it's toll....

Only if you had a colour TV I watched the early ones on a black & white set. Sigh, I had such a disadvantaged childhood.....
