I got to do something else yesterday, far more interesting than the usual. Word came down from on high (literally: SM poked his head out of the 'crow's nest' up in the office) for me to don a purple shirt and oversee the self-scans. Basically staying up front, I could bag but had to watch for any issues with the selfchecks. That was routine: forcing coupons through, voiding items, typing in UPCs that wouldn't scan, for some reason station #9 had issues with rhubarb and refused to ring it through. I think I know what happened there; some of the scales are super-sensitive and any produce that has multiple pieces MUST be bagged or else the belt detects a different weight as stuff shifts (grr). Eventually I either got it in the correct orientation or the kiosk detected that it might be taken apart if it insisted on playing up 
Most of the stuff with the 'god card' I already knew how to do from just watching, although I need to ask someone how to do a scan-gun audit properly and recall the order if the customer scanned their store card first (I know it can be done, but not exactly how to do it) as well as how to close out those registers (which I couldn't do when asked as then a crowd descended and all the working ones were in use until my shift ended).
So wearing a purple shirt for a day was fun
