  • This woman yelled at me, then came BACK just to yell at me again!!

For those who dont know, im a supervisor at a retail store in the mall, a girls clothes only store to be exact ! And let me tell you, rude customers, make me want to rip my hair out

So there were two people ringing on the register today, me, and another sales associate. I got this lady and her daughter who was probably about 17 or so. The daughter was the one buying the items which came to a total of 8.75$. She gave me 75 cents, three ones, and a five. But her mother didnt want her to use a five. She wanted her to use all ones. The daughter said the five was fine, but the mom didnt want it that way. (Not to be rude, but the mother had a bit of a strong russian accent). Anyways so she wanted the five back...okay lol. I gave her the five (remember i still had the 3 ones) then the daughter counts out the ones shes going to give me and she counts to eight. However i still have her 3 ones and she only owes me eight. I Got confused and asked her if the eight she just counted out includes the 3 i already have, wondering if she forgot i still had it. For some reason none of them understood my question and the mom got rude real fast! She wanted all the money back then slowly started couting it like i was stupid "one two three four five six seven eight!! See eight!!" So then i tried to explain my question "I know but..." "Will you just STOP!"...so i said "Fine." Threw her clothes in the bag and put the bag on the counter. She grabbed it and told me how rude i am and asked for my name, so i told her and said she could take a business card too for the website and the number. She said she already had it but kept telling me how horrible i am and how rude i am. I was a bit confused on where her attitude came from .

Five minutes later she comes storming back in screaming at me telling demanding a manager, i told her im the supervisor and she got a kick out of that and told me how i dont deserve to work there and that im horrible and mean and shes going to complain "so good" about me. Let me be straight, she was literally screaming ! I kept trying to tell her (again) and explain to her my question that for some reason made her mad, but she kept screaming over me. Her daughter was mortified. Finally i had enough and told her I am not the rude one. SHE is. Yes i could get in trouble for that, and probably will as im sure she will lie to make me look bad. But geez i dont understand people like that! Ugh!!

I used to work at a kids store in the mall, and that has happened to my former coworkers before, luckily never to me, because like you I would have finally said something to her about how rude she was being. Anyways, when ever we had a situation like that where the customer came back to yell some more, we would just call security on them, because at this point they are harassing you and causing a disturbance in the store.

So Sorry that happened to you. Hopefully you can talk to your manager or district manager before crazy lady calls corporate and tell your side of the story.

This woman was yelling at you for not taking three extra dollars from her daughter? WTF?

Really? You're saving them three dollars and she's chewing you like you're the rude one? Especially since she's the one that created the issue in the first place?!

I had something similar when cashiering. I finally realized I needed to stop ASKING them if they remembered something and TELL them. Like, "Well, you already gave me three dollars, so all I'll need is five more."

Of course, when I cashiered, I was working in an area that was 70% over 60 years and most of them took it rather personally that I'd ask them if they remembered something and acted as though I assumed they had dementia or something. Most were happier with me telling them (which I assumed was assuming dementia, silly me) and would just hand over the amount. Then there was always that small percentage that wouldn't be happy even if everything went perfectly.
If I make no sense, I apologize. I'm constantly interrupted by an actual toddler.

If this had happened to me and my manager was there when that "woman" came back he would have said something along the lines of "get fucked and never come back"
If anyone breaks the three pint rule, they'll be running all night to the pisser and back.

When they were counting out the money again, I almost thought they were trying a weird version of the quickchange scam.... but how they would actually benefit from doing it like this I'm not exactly sure. But really, doesn't matter if you use the 5 or all 1s, it's all pretty much the same... but I often try to use my bigger bills to keep my 1s for the sandwich and pop machines at work.

It has been my experience that, with SC's like this, you are "rude" for doing vile, detestable things like actually enforcing company policy, waiting on other customers who were already in your line before the SC arrived, refusing to break the law for their benefit, and failing to fall for any scams they might be trying to perpetrate. So basically, anything short of <unprintable act> counts as "rude". They, of course, are NEVER rude.

If/when she complains to Corporate, she will be certain to mention that SHE was always calm and unusually polite, and say that YOU were fire-breathing demon upsetting the other customers by screaming at the top of the lungs. See if you can get the SM to hang on to the security footage so you will have some evidence to back your side of the story up

Sorry you had to deal with someone like that -- tho, kudos to her daughter for at least trying to act like a normal person. There's hope for her yet!
