  • No air movement needed!

Well, since its summer, and bugs come out, we have been getting customer complaints about bugs being squished into rolls of paper (bugs, birds, its a huge open work area....huge....birds and bugs fly into the machines rolling the paper and make a great big mess lol it happens.)

Management solution? Rivet every window shut and hang bug zappers.

Now just so everyone knows, theres a full pulp machine and paper machine, running about 80 feet apart. They both use steam to dry sheets. Its hot as hell. In the middle of -40 Celcius, i wear a sleeveless shirt and shorts in the mill. In +35 like it is now....you just want to die.

Now, we do have several big air movers that are hooked up to a cooling system that never works. The windows kind of tipped the balance and vented enough heat to make it bearable in the heat (our lunch room has A/C but due to our contract, if we are behind, we might not break for the whole 12 hour shift).

We asked them why they didnt just get screens for the windows....their reply "Well how long until somebody steals or cuts them?!"

Ok real smart asshole. I can tell you, the pulp machine isnt running right now, so it isnt bad, but after 3 days of that thing being up and adding to the heat and i guarantee every single piece of glass is gonna be busted out of those things lol, if i dont do it myself, somebody else will, and nothing will ever be done about it, so why not just go the easy way.

On a positive note, we just finished negotiating our new contract and im looking at about a $5-7000 signing bonus every year for the next 5 years, plus a 3% per year raise, so the heat is getting a little easier to deal with lol.

They do realise that bugs and birds can use doors as well, right?

not to mention if it gets too hot the company may fall under legal guidelines that dictate heat exposure times etc

I think that whenever management makes decisions about air conditioning they should be forced to work in the 'solutions' for a week.

At my store in the summer it gets stupidly hot on the front end; we have some dehumidifying/anti-sweat thing in lieu of actual air conditioning (if there is AC I can't tell). Which doesn't really work as planned (I don't do well in humidity anyway; artificial dryness really messes with me). Today with triple-digit temps is going to be fun.

Yep. Can't have the nirds and the bees making more birds and bees in a private business ... that's obscene.
