  • Are They Alive?

A while back, while at our favorite bookstore which is now closed, I had an Odd Thought. Is Judy Blume still Alive? Granted we had not heard anything about her death, but you know sometimes people get a very small obit and it passes you by.
A quick jump to Wikipedia showed that she is, in fact, alive and still fighting censorship.

Which had me think, how many people are out there that are Authors, or Musicians or Actors who MAY have passed and you missed it? And could we make a somewhat morbid game of it?

Concept, you list someone you remember from your youth, and someone else looks up if they are Alive or Not, Then they comment on your choice and then Pick a different Name for someone else to look up...

    I shall start:

    Beverly Cleary
Lister: This is Crazy. Why are we talking about going to bed with Wilma Flintstone?
Cat: You're right. We're Nuts! This is an insane conversation....
Lister: She'll never leave Fred and we know it.

I had this same horrible realization about Brian Jacques, when I finally had a spare moment to see when the next book was coming out. Found out that he'd passed the month beforehand. I was crushed.

Not only is Judy Blume alive and well, she has been in my bar often, as she loves Key West. I think she either lives here or has a place down here for vacations, can't remember which.

I grew up on the Ramona books by Beverly Cleary. Fun reading them, since she grew up in the area.

                    *sigh*

Okay, since he won't do it, I will.

DaDairyDruid had suggested this a few times, the last time being last week when Andy Griffith and Ernest Borgnine passed away.

Seeing as either he or I say the same thing, especially with people who are older - "I didn't think they were still alive," it seemed like a fun game to play.

But seeing as it's become a drag before it got started, I suppose it was a good idea in theory. I guess he and I will just play it amongst ourselves from now on.

Every couple weeks I check Frederik Pohl's Wikipedia page to make sure he is still alive. He is a grand master of 20th-century (and beyond) SF, but I don't trust any major news outlet to care if he dies.

Very cool! I registered for the site just so I can participate in that this next year. Seems like they are far more organized at running their death pool than I was at running my one attempt at it.
