  • Epic Fail: Woman tries to ride scooter up escalator

CNN reported this story yesterday. Great video of a SC trying to ride a scooter UP an escalator. An elevator was nearby.

I can hear it now: "I don't wanna ride the elevator! It's too hot! I'm claustrophobic! I can do anything in my scooter! I'm ENTITLED to ride the escalator!"

After she falls flat on her ass, the scooter is pulled up over her and then topples back on top of her.

Apparently, she's OK, but I don't see a bright future for this Darwin's Candidate.

I saw that on another site. What was she thinking?

Oh, she'll sue the property and the escalator manufacturer. In the meantime we can all have a good laugh!

        Easy answer: She wasn't.

Seriously, though, there are some things that just do not mix well with wheelchairs and motorized scooters. Revolving doors are one. Escalators are apparently another.

Butbutbut...the escalator was wide enough for the scooter, what do you mean it wasn't meant for that?

I'm sure her reason was so she could sue the T and claim the escalators were 'unsafe'. I've noticed that a lot of scooter 'dwellers' in this city have entitlement issues; there's one old guy who regularly rides in the traffic lanes and flips off actual drivers. Part of me is waiting for him to get hit one day.

But don't escalators have signs saying that strollers, wheelchairs, etc. are supposed to use the elevator instead of the escalator? Despite the known fact that SCs don't read signs, the fact that it's posted shows that she was ignoring instructions, and therefore any problems are her own damn fault.
Any fool can piss on the floor. It takes a talented SC to shit on the ceiling.

our lift was broken last week, it was a few minutes to close and a woman in a wheel chair used the escalator to go up a floor she held onto the bannister with one hand and just .. up she went. my heart was in my mouth when i realised what was going on and i was dumbfounded - that could've ended really badly!

and to think, she could've left the building using the main door a few feet away, gone up the path and around the corner to a working elevator operated by the mall or gone up the slope. ugh >.<

and yeah, there are plenty of signs up saying that buggies and such aren't to be used on escalators. doesn't stop many unfortunately

I'm sure she'll try to say that the sign didn't specifically say no scooters therefore she didn't know. And the crusade by the idiots to drag the rest of us to their level continues...

At least someone figured out what the emergency stop button was for. That is, BTW, one of the situations it is specifically designed to address.

I guess it depends on whether you count a gopher as a "motorized wheelchair".

                    Good to know!

Also, this is why I am so glad that yon not-so-local shopping centre has 2 travelators, one at each end of the mall. So Miss Entitled ass can use them if she so desires without falling over. And then there's 2 escalators that the rest of us completely normal people can use without hassle (the pattern goes something like escalator-travelator-escalator-travelator, with lifts at either end and either side)

I saw that and had a good laugh. If I were the person ahead of her and looked back, I wouldn't have helped her based on her stupidity. What's worse though... her at the bottom and collapsing trying to go up, or the thought of her riding DOWN the escalator and possibly taking everyone out? She might have gotten a 7-10 split.

I think in the news report, they said an elevator was mere feet away from the escalator also.

In one video I got to see, you can see the elevator in the background.
