  • "Modern" clothing item....

may not be quite so modern. The modern bra was patented about 100 years ago but:

600 year old Bra found in castle

I wonder if they had a eaiser time fitting them back then???? or if they were eaiser to undo???
I'm lost without a paddle and headed up SH*T creek.

I get through the whole thing and then this pops up:

Also found at Lemberg Castle in Tyrol was a linen undergarment that looks very much like a pair of panties. But Nutz said it is men's underwear —women did not wear anything under their flowing skirts back then.
"Underpants were considered a symbol of male dominance and power," she said.
Medieval drawings often show a man and a woman fighting for a pair of underpants in a symbolic battle to see who "wears the trousers" in the family.
So I guess back then, men really DID wear the pants in the household

Yes! This is really fascinating for us costume people. I've been geeking out ever since I heard last night.

Very well preserved for linen, what a lucky find!

I wonder what some of the other designs were.

The bras and a bunch of other clothing and shoes were buried with a bunch of debris used to level a floor. It was all sealed off, so less oxygen was getting in, preventing decay. All of the bras had various embroidery and lace on them, so they were meant to be seen .
