So, if I was to make a Wolverine cake for a certain someone for his birthday, could I get away with making the ear flap things on his mask blue, or have they always been black? Black icing is just not very appetizing.

I actually don't mind the thought of slicing into Wolverine's face because I kind of hate him.

he used to wear a brown and tan colored uniform maybe that costume would work better?
Lister: This is Crazy. Why are we talking about going to bed with Wilma Flintstone?
Cat: You're right. We're Nuts! This is an insane conversation....
Lister: She'll never leave Fred and we know it.

You might consider getting a cheap air brush for the black bits...

google images show the original had black ears but i think he's also had blue, depending on the shading.

It depends on if your Wild Hobbit is quite picky or not.

also, another option for you to do is to make a basic sheet cake and see if you can find an edible image of Wolverine or the X-Men. There might even be some edible icing paper out there for that...

My mom always used a kind of purple black icing dye from Wilson when she did Batman. It wasn't quite black, but near enough.

Well, I tried the cake last night and let's just say I think Khan will have to be content with an Iron Man cake. At least when I make Iron Man he is recognizable as Iron Man...

Oh, I am doing cupcakes too because Khan loves chocolate and I don't, so I wanted an alternate flavor. The Fantastic Four, Green Lantern, Captain Marvel, the Flash, Spider-man, the X-men and Martian Manhunter are all easy. Superman, not so much.

I was proud of myself, for Batman's cupcake I remembered I have a tiny Halloween bat cookie cutter, I froze a sheet of yellow icing on wax paper, then used the cookie cutter to make PERFECT BATS. Very convenient!

Ooh, that's very clever. I ought to try that sometime. What icing/frosting recipe did you use?

You CAN get edible paper out there, but you need some edible ink for it as well. The best way to handle this apparently is to buy a cheap printer that hasn't been used, then replace the regular ink cartridges with the edible ink cartridges.

If the printer is an HP or Lexmark, you can probably get away with a used printer, since the printheads (reason for a "virgin" printer is so that these would not be contaminated with normal ink) are part of the cartridge, so putting in a cartridge of edible ink would automatically swap in printheads untouched by normal ink.

Wal-Mart can do it. If you bring the image, they can copy it with rice paper and edible ink. They did it for me once when I wanted a birthday cake with all the 14 known Clue suspects on it.
