  • My own "For the sewers" thread

So. I'm modding a Nerf Recon to look like a Bolt Pistol from 40K. Why? Because I can
More definitively, I'm modding it to look like a Space Wolf bolt pistol (Cos seriously. Who doesn't like the idea of Vikings in Space, who ride giant wolves into battle)

I'm currently trying to make a "Wolf Tail Talisman" to hang off the bottom of the grip. My first attempt looks like (for want of a better description) a P*nis warmer

I have the material (not quite the perfect colour, but it is a brown, and fur) and stuffing. Needles etc and I know basic stitching/sewing (i'm a well rounded home handyman and cook ) but I dont have the ideas on how to cut the material to get the right shape. Google could show you pictures, but if someone needs more details shots, I can take a pic of the model part itself, and the Nerf gun for a scale type shot.

Not a sewer, but I'd say cut out a triangle out of it, fold it around inside out, into a sort of cone, stitch it up, then turn it the right way around and you should have a fairly reasonable tail part, use paper to practise so you get the right shape that you want, and then find something thats half a sphere, and glue ti onto it (so it's like the talisman on the pistol) OR, you know, buy a sheap wolf stuffed toy and cut the tail off

Also for nerf, the longstrike would be a good one to mod for a lasgun and a cut down longshot could make a reasonable bolter, with modification.

I had an idea this would attract you Rayven lol.

Yeah my flatmate and I discussed a bolt gun look. The Recon would have to be extended to make a proper Bolt gun, but it does make a nice bolt pistol (including Forgeworld SW Rhino doors for icons on the sides). I'm tempted to re-do the plasticard on this pistol. I'm not totally happy with it. And I need to make the curved 'clip' cover for the recon clip.

I did try the cone idea, but the pointed tip didn't come out right, hence its current description.

Cheap wolf toy would be another idea, but I wanted to be able to say I'd made it all myself (barring the pistol ofcourse, which is already modded XD).

I have a longshot, and darn you, I'm now trying to plan how to mod it to look like a bolt gun.

Turning a Regular Mag into a sickle mag, would be easy enough, since it doesn't stick out from the gun too much. But do be aware, Boltgun (and lasgun) ammo comes ina wide variety of magazines,, though i can understand wanting tthe sickle mag, it looks cooler lol. Have you looked at Forge World Etched brass for icons?

It more than attracted me, I went ot and bought a longstrike, a recon and a Stampede.

(btw are you in the UK, can't remember)

I'm going to make the Longstrike into a: Lasgun, Las Carbine and a Bolter (going to make it so that the body around it that will make it look like those will be removable, so i can still access the nerf gun incase i need to and switch the mods around, already modded my longstrike a bit, so it has a removable stock and bolt. (btw if you want a longstrike, check out Argos, got mine for the nice price of £20) A Longstrike without the extended barrel has a darn good starting shape for a bolter.

Gonna make the Recon into a Imperial Guard Boltgun.

Got 13 6 round magazinss, one of the clip systems) and 3 18 round ones, plut a ton of ammo. (Just incase you're wondering the Nstrike Elite rounds work fine with the recon/longstrike, so if you want more mags, 4 of them (even though they're half see through) buy the Nstrike Elite Hail Fire Mission kit (£13 from argos) or for £6 the clip system refils, you get 2 mags and 30 regular slimline rounds for £6.

Gonna turn the Stampede into a Aliens Gun, I think, but for that I'd also need a part from the longshot (the blaster that goes on the end of it, but with the handle removed from it)

Not sure on how to do the Wolf Tail talisman (my ability to sew isn't bad until I get to anything relating to plushy. Then it sucks.) Maybe Spark will stop in and give some hints.

As for the gun itself, I find it amusing that Johnson Arms posted this Recon mod, and that I have a spare Recon pistol laying around the house... Great minds think alike, huh?

The other two Full Recons are going to get changed over to either N7 Mass Effect style or Halo style. If I can get my hands on a Longshot or Longstrike without breaking the bank, I'll start on the sniper rifle. Ravyn or Stampede will probably be N7, and the Mavericks will (of course) be steampunked.

Longstrikes are around $30 on amazon. Also, a Rayven (gun not me lol) with the Recon's detachable barrel would make a pretty good Halo Battle Rifle methinks.

Also, had a few more ideas for what i can do with my Longstrike and Recon:

Recon: Guard Bolt Pistol and Las Carbine (Las Carbine with the Longstrikes Extended barrel and a folding stock of my own making)

Longstrike: Bolter, Lasgun (with the Recons detachable Barrel and a custom stock, either solid, foldsing or sliding one, i don't know yet) Long Las (with the Longstrikes extended barrel)

This isn't one of my fandoms, what is the seal and parchement?

The seal and parchment is a purity seal, usually indicates that either the equipment, or bearer of the equipment is of sound body, mind and soul, or as an award for personal valour and achievement etc.

Yeah but Leman russ dissapeared to find the seeds of the tree of life, to revive the Emperor, Jaghatai Khan merely chased after a dark eldar like a dog chasing after a car.

Reminds me of a certain quote:

Just gives me the most hilarious mental image of Khan hiding in a closet and sneaking about ala a cartoon villain

Rayven covered the Purity Seal. I actually have a official one I got with the collectors edition of Space Marine. For Mal's revolver, if he wants a rather oversized one (based on a nerf gun) the Maverick is a nice revolver, and with some modding you can fit the Recon's barrel extension (or the Spectre) on it to make a massive. I can probably write a basic description for you, or find the page I first saw it on. It will how ever, be big.

Oh by the way, if you're ever going to do a bolter, (which I'd reccomend using the Longstrike as a base for) these might help, made it ages ago and sadly lost the original model.

Yeah, getting a point on a small bit of fur is hard! I suggest FIRST hand sew it! Putting a bulky seam on the inside makes everything much harder, and for something this small hand stitches are just as far as a machine anyway.

Secondly, I wouldn't use a cone, I'd actually use two pieces. Simplest way to get about the right shape, and the method I use on my Loonakit tails (see here: http://www.sparkcostumes.com/gallery....php?album=105 ) Basically draw the shape you want, in silhouette, then make two of them and sew then together, like a little pillow.

Also be sure to cut the fabric so you're just cutting the backing, cut into the fur itself as little as possible.

And it can help to cut the very tip, about 1/8" or so, off the ends of the tail, sewing points together is a pain.
