  • Have you ever googled reviews of your workplace?

I got a little bored and decided to google reviews of the pub I work at just to see what came up. I thought it would be an interesting spin on Sucky Customers. Here are a couple of gems that I found.

"One star out of five: A lovely, warm pub with friendly staff, but it is just far too busy on a Friday/Saturday night! The other customers talk too loudly and I can't hear myself think!"

"One star out of five: two expeensvie" Yes, that was actually how it was spelled.

"Two stars out of five: Too many young people work here!"

"Three stars out of five: Fantastic service. Good food and beer. Friendly and chatty staff and a well lit pub. However, it lacks character."

"One star out of five: The staff only have two working speeds: Slow or on their break. You should be ashamed of yourselves."

Those were the crappy ones. Most of the reviews were four or five stars. But those aren't as fun to read.

    Anyone here got some examples?

One time I was looking at reviews for local restaurants and there was one bad review that said they would not go there again because they had to call the police over a dispute with a gift certificate. Since when are gift certificate problems a police matter? Wouldn't it be nice if we could give reviews to customers to warn other business's to avoid them?

Perhaps you would be happier with Tuesday's Early Bird Special. Then you can be home in time for Betty White's Off Their Rockers.

"Two stars out of five: Too many young people work here!"
      Again, see above.

I didn't need to google. My employer on the front page of USA Today. I think they gave us zero stars.

Well, I can't find any customer reviews from the most recent places I've worked at, but I've found some employee reviews on glass door from a semi local company I worked for a few years ago.

Pros – They have a cafeteria and fitness center. Scheduling time off was not a hassle. For part timers, it was a good way to have a set schedule.
Cons – No one walks around with a smile on their face. It is simply a depressing place to work. There is no reason to work here.

I've looked up reviews on places I have worked in the past, but not where I currently work. There is no such place to trash or praise the place, save for employees being silly on Facebook or texting one another and such.

I used to check the ratings on the hotel I worked at the last 3 summers almost daily. I got bored at work, and I owned my own laptop. Almost all the reviews were the same.

"This hotel is horrible. There is no pool, and while the website says there is a dining room, the staff have informed me the dining room has been closed for years. The rooms smell, it is unclean, the prices are too high, and it looks like it's haunted. There was a group of construction workers next door being rowdy, and I could not sleep. The desk staff is the only saving grace. They are all amazing and friendly. They are the 1 star on this 1 star rating. They are the best thing about this hotel."

This is the basic negative review on most of the sites that I remember. Every single one calls the desk staff amazing. There isn't one review positive or negative that doesn't.

I tried the last place but it is a world wide company so that didn't work. From actual customers while doing my job I had heard about some of the other locations though. Apparently most sucked but we were good. The company only puts the good reviews on their website, of course.

I used to love it when we were compared to our European counterparts though. Of course the service is going to be different, and yes the customs agents do things differently.

I have read reviews. So far the negative ones I have seen appear to be made by people who have considerably unreasonable expectations.

Oh, and a few about how hard it is to get help in the store. But really, if you want specialized services and someone to hold your hand, then perhaps you should not be in a DIY store. What part of Do It Yourself do you not understand?

As a side bar: When searching for a resort for my honeymoon a few years ago, My husband and I found a hotel we loved by it's website and then read all of the negative reviews of it.
And that is what made us decide to make reservations.

                  Some of the negative complaints:

Negative Review: "They wouldn't let my family staying at Other Hotel bring their children to the pool at this Hotel"

Me: Ooooh...check! It does say 18 and older...so they must enforce that policy! sign me up.

NR: "The food was waaaay too high end and fancy, and no one could tell me where a Mc Donalds was"

Me: Oh, snap! No McDonalds? 7 restaraunts to pick from + a burger and pizza kiosk? Happy me.

NR: "This place is boring...They don't have a dance club and the live entertainment ends at 11pm"

Me: If I was 20 that would be a problem, but I'm not. I'm 40ish. Bars open until 3pm, but no crazy Vegas/Cancun dance music pounding into my drunken sleep. ++++++++

                  and so forth.

The BEST vacation of my life.

Mine is on Glassdoor.... my last employer was not so great. As you will see from this one review, from a current manager at the organization. If that doesn't scream volumes, nothing will. And people wonder why I quit when I had the chance. Ha!

Title: “This is really a terrible company to work for”
Current Manager - Feeling Bad for the Employees Under Me

Pros – The only job that was available at that time
                    Facility is Ok
Learning Mandarin and how to deal with stupid Senior Managers
got to learn how to read lips cause no one speaks English

Cons – Benefits are same as working for Walmart or Big Lots
compenstaion is below average because its a Chinese company and they love to under pay you and over work you, micro management.
work environment sucks and there are a lot of mad people working here
if you are in IT, forget it, stay away from this company's IT department, although im not in IT
No respect for employees, you can work there for 10 years and they will let you go overnight for any reason.
No respect for their own selves, ill give it 2.5 stars out of 10 as a company
90% of drinks consumed on site are Green Tea with no sugar

Advice to Senior Management – dont be so frugal
Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not even sure about the universe.

I love the glass door posts (particularly this one below) on my last job. Across the country they are the same, and generally jive with my experience...

Pros – After working for the company for several years, it's difficult to understand why anyone with any sense of personal worth or ambition to better themselves would want to work for REDACTED.

Cons – REDACTED local management - like it's corporate leadership - is inept and bungling. The company pays its front-line employees next to nothing, yet expects them to provide a high level of customer service. Upper management is arrogant, heartless, mean-spirited and lacks character content. One should consider REDACTED as the last place to work.

Advice to Senior Management – The parent company,REDACTED, should consider nothing short of a complete corporate lobotomy to change the organization's leadership and corporate personality. Middle level managers sorely need training in management skills, need to be held accountable for their blunders, and must learn the fundamentals of ethical behaviour.

I use the negative reviews to reach a positive decision when choosing a hotel as well. I usually don't find such great direct info as you did in the reviews, but the negatives can still help decide for rather than against. I figure there are so many people out there who either are not happy unless complaining, or always complain in the hopes of being offered a freebie. So if I look over the negatives, and it's obvious they've really had to stretch to find something negative to say - complaints like "the pool closed an hour earlier than I wanted it to" or "I didn't ask for a room with a view, and I got a view of the parking lot" or "I could hear people go past my room to the elevator", then I figure the really important stuff "cleanliness, friendliness of staff, working amenities" must have been fine, and it would be a good place to stay.

                          Madness takes it's toll....

I decided to look up my company, found this was the funniest review around: seems someone never worked a call center before,

“if you love phones this is the place for you”
Former Tier II Customer Service Representative in Saint Petersburg, FL – Reviewed Aug 04, 2011

Pros – the building is nice to work in and is brand new
the job is pretty secure for the most part

                            Cons – Health benifits Horrible
having to badge to get into parking lot/building long process
constantly on phones with breaks changeing every chance you look
understaffed and when the call volume is low they send people home and it picks back up.
Vacation has to be approved 2 weeks in advance
if you leave your desk for a minute to goto the bathroom you will get emails asking if everythings ok
Long training class with horrible trainers (other then the training manager)

Advice to Senior Management – Shorten Training and fire all the dead weight management and trainers. Don't send Reps home when the call volumes low you cannot predict future call volume. Allow people to use vacation even on short notice
Crono: sounds like the machine update became a clusterf*ck..
pedersen: No. A clusterf*ck involves at least one pleasurable thing (the orgasm at the end).

Just looked up reviews of the Macy's which I worked at, and most of the complaints seemed to be about the customer being given the wrong info regarding prices or item availability. (particularly in the furniture department)
